Which way round.
I was only 15 when 'Thuderdome' was released at the cinema, and after watching I wanted to see more. The local video shop only had 'Mad Max 2' to rent, so I watched that next. Finally many months later I managed to rent 'Mad Max'. I really enjoyed watching it this way as each time I wanted to know where/how Max evolved from. To give an example, watching it backwards made it more poignant to me during the initial chase of 'Mad Max' with the simple radio announcement of "Christ, they're heading for population". Population? I thought. What population?
When my daughter grows up, I'm thinking of letting her watch it like me, in reverse order.
Just wanted other people's thoughts on the matter.
Thanks

It's fun when you find something great, then discover there's more to see. I only saw "The Road Warrior" in 1982, and then a friend told me that there was a movie that came before it.
My 7 year old son was asking about my MM1 and 2 posters and I tried to explain in a way that might excite him, but I don't think he'd sit through the movies. I might try though.

Re: Which way round.
I remember HBO or Cinemax would show Road Warrior late at night and it being praised heavily in TV Guide. Anyway, this was either in the fall of 82 or 83 and I had a tendency to watch the first chase sequence but would turn the channel when Max slowly drove up to the Gyro-Copter. I just didn't know any better and I probably had the attention span of a knat.
A few years later in the summer of 1985 I was stationed in the military and I borrowed a VHS copy of the Road Warrior and finally watched it all the way through. I was so blown away that I just had to go rent the original Mad Max and of course, that blew me away too!! And, as it happened to turn out, MMBT came out just a few weeks later. I remember being so excited to go see it at the theater. Unfortunately, it turned out to be mostly disappointing but that's how movies and their sequels go most of the times.
So yeah, I watched the Mad Max trilogy out of order; 2 - 1 - 3..all in the summer of 1985. That's also the same year I finally got laid but I won't bore you with that story lol.

I first saw MM2 when I was 7! It was on rotation on HBO at the time, and seemingly being aired 3 times a day.
Maybe kids are jaded these days, but personally, I was enthralled. Captivated. I couldn't get enough. Be careful what you ask for though, Seeing It may have warped me a little.

Re: Which way round.
i was lucky enough to have one of those dads that let me stay up late and watch R rated movies and would let me wander round a videostore and pick something while he was looking. This is how i saw cool shit like ROLLING THUNDER and CONVOY, STONE and BATTLETRUCK.
He rented MAD MAX 2 when i was around 6 or 7 and to this day i don't know why he hired that one first, but he let me watch it and we both loved it so much he went and hired the original the day after and we couldn't believe how completely different they were in story but the savage spirit was still there.
We also couldn't believe how sleek the Interceptor started and what it became.
It came on tv not long after and they played the 'LOST VERSION' of part 2, which confused shit out of me but this was around 84/85 before the internet, before you could look things up and find out why there were alternate versions of films etc.
THUNDERDOME was made not long after and ...well most of us on here (atleast the old members) have common opinions on that movie that it was a commercial sell-out and MAD MAX MEETS GOONIES and blahblah, but i genuinly did love it as a kid, though i was dissapointed in its lack of recognisable vehicles in it, but it wasn't until about 12 years old that i got all cynical and opinionated and started to hate it.
My point in this long rant is, if us 70's and 80's kids could handle them, kids these days who sneak the SAW and HOSTEL films to their friends houses would find our movies laughable and not violent or scary at all.

Re: Which way round.
The first Mad Max movie I saw on cinema was 2. Later then Thunderdome as I was 17. My dad asked me if I liked the film. My response was like "I didn't like it". But how cool, I saw the first Mad Max on cinema as I was 18. And for me the first one is the best of all 3. I absolutely love the universe of the first one. It's simply near to our world. No Wez or creatures like Humungus. But to be honest: The future will be the world of the cops. No Mad Max. But hey Rock: glad to see you back on here.

I could probably make it on my own, but I like you kids.

Totally dude, it's absolutely believable and so close to our world you can touch it.Bubba Fat wrote: I absolutely love the universe of the first one. It's simply near to our world. MAD MAX 2 is my favourite but the future won't be like that, it will be more like THE ROAD or BATTLETRUCK.
Not sure how long i'll be back, i guess as long as the cool geeky conversations go on like this, but it's cool to be back for now

In the 90's I grew up watching a VHS dubbed, taped off of TV edited for content and time copy of Mad Max 1 with the first 5-10 minutes missing. Amazing to finally get the uncut dubbed VHS version and then finally the DVD with the original Australian dialoge.

Re: Which way round.
I seen 2 first at the local cinema after they installed some new fangled sound system , the opening chase scene in thundering stereo on the big screen is one of my fondest memories , I knew this was going to be one hell of a ride and it didn't let me down.
After we left the cinema and walked down the road we immediately spun around and took notice of any loud V8's that passed by almost like an instinct reaction to imminent danger
The hook is at the end " we never seen the road warrior again " so this makes you go and find and watch 1 to find out more about Max
The anticipation for 3 was high but alas we all know what happened
