Sick of it!
Sick of it!
I don't post here much, but now felt compelled to in light of this latest "Postponement" of the Fury Road Movie. I have never seen such a bloody shenanigans to be honest! What will it eventually take for George Miller to make this film? Movies are being turned out now almost on a daily basis without a single hitch, yet the idea of a fourth Mad Max movie has always been plagued with problems! I read all the "reasons" being given for this second major setback and can't help but conclude from it that Mr Miller is not serious or committed to the project at all. The movie seems to always take a backseat to his other projects, and even when his schedule is open enough to allow the movie to be made, he quickly shelves it in favor of some newer idea that came about after Fury Road. It seems like they just don't really want to make the movie, as there is no enthusiasm for it. Perhaps they have decided that based on current trends a fourth Mad Max movie would not "sell" in an entertainment climate where it is perhaps considered a dead duck? The whole thing just seems to be propelled in a rather half-arsed fashion as opposed to most movies and the due processes by which they are made. George Miller can's it, then when all other projects are complete he comes back to it again. It it merely there to fill in time between other films? Or is the whole project just a crock? To me it seems the latter what with the complete ridiculousness of the whole deal from concept, to press releases, insider "leaks" cast interviews, then Bam! It's all off again folks! Credibility??? That's spiralling down faster than the BOB at full rpm on Avgas!!! I don't think this film will ever be made..Why? Because it seems to be being treated as nothing more than a "space filler" between other more "important" films, and comes across as being nothing more than an after thought. I think I can confidently conclude that Fury Road will never be any more than a concept or an idea. To be even more scathing and blunt here, even if it did surface say in 2015/2020? Would I see it? Probably not, because with all the arsing around getting it off the ground, historically like other films that have been canned/picked up/canned, etc...the final result is usually very disappointing to say the least. Add to that the time frame between The Road Warrior and this 4th idea, which with every year gone by saps even more believability and credibility, the film I believe could fare worse than another movie we all know..."Waterworld". Perhaps Fury Road if ever released may even top that one making it one of the biggest box office flops in recorded history. George you have killed the project one too many times, the anticipation can only last so long before it no longer holds any excitement or appeal. It is obvious you do not want to make this movie, otherwise a) it would be in full production NOW, or b) It would already be being viewed in cinemas across the world right NOW. I think it would be better if you just left it where it lies. and walk away saying.....All that remain are memories....

Re: Sick of it!
Yeah, seriously, no one could predict the weather on this one, not months to years ahead. The fact that the outer reaches of Australian interior civilisation is taken for granted as being baron, arid desert like landscapes of little moisture and even less sustainable rainfall, but every so often this kinda thing happens, a 'big wet'.
The same thing that refills Lake Eyre every so often, it is 'regular', but it's regularity is based on years, it is difficult to predict which year will bring the rains, harder to predict exactly which half of the year.
This is a natural phenomena, at the moment, the outback is experiencing a flourish of greenery and wildflowers, not exactly the harsh, foreboding wasteland, so everything is forced to wait.
We have to deal with it I think...

And thousands more movies languish in "Preproduction", waiting for things to happen.
And how many movies have there been that ran into problems after filming was completed and will never be seen by audiences?
"Go ahead and run. Run home and cry to mama! Me, I'm Through runnin'!"
Re: Sick of it!
I'd prefer a delay of a year or five, rather than have a cheap piece of dross like ChunderDome spewed out.
Quality takes times, and if it's rushed....
Peter Jackson's first (and best) movie took him 4 years to shoot, and that does not include the pre-production work.
Rome was built in a day...

Then what's taking Miller so damn long!?Daz wrote:Rome was built in a day...

The delays, current and previous, are largly due to issues Miller and Co. have little control over.
1. The 2003 Gulf War and the decision early on to film in Africa and not Australia.
2. Mel's interest in the film, and in acting in general, waned after making his highly successful Passion film in 2004.
3. Warner Bros., liking Miller's pitch for Happy Feet, ask him to move on to that instead.
During this time, Miller was still very intested in making MM4, but momentum had been lost and the stars and planets were no longer aligned to make it happen. While he moved on to other things, he always spoke of his desire to make the movie one day. To me, it sounds like it's the movie he wants to make more than any other. His 'baby', so to speak. As such, he has treated it with lots of nurturing and TLC. It won't be made until Miller, a self-professed perfectionist, feels it's ready to be made. If we have to wait a few years for it, so be it.
I'm just afraid that the financial backers will grow weary of the waiting.
Re: Sick of it!
Well it does sound like a dead duck in the water to me, weather being the cause and effect of this present delay. As unpredictable as the weather actually is, perhaps the "greening" of the outback in Broken Hill is not just a temporary phenomena? It could very well be permanent? Who can tell. I mean the Meterological offices who feed weather reports and updates through to the media on a daily basis still fail miserably and constantly with their accuracy. Is the region suddenly going to regress back to it's original state of barren-ness, ring George & Co saying "Sorry for the inconvenience there Mr Miller, we was just messin' with ya Ha ha, the greenery is gone and you can return to your filming...We won't do it again...Promise Heh heh, wink, wink". To me all things considered this weather "excuse" seems a little Blase' when you think that allegedly CGI was likely to be a heavy component of the film, (these days it seems to be a prerequisite). With the incredible power of HD camera's Mega graphic's workstations and highly professionalised operators, this "greenery" could probably be filtered out? I would have thought it would be a very minor inconvenience, not enough to justify and validate an indefinate postponment. The whole thing reeks of a cancellation to me, all the "ingredients" are there.

Re: Sick of it!
The weather has gone absolutely apeshit in this country!
Not only are the deserts green, but we have copped SNOW in some areas, and it is out SUMMER. Parts of north Western Australia are flooding disaster areas after some of them copped a years rainfall in days. Parts of Melbourne are experiencing winter style severe storms. Last night I slept under a blanket and when I went fro a walk this morning, I felt like I should have been wearing more clothes than I was, and I had a light jacket on. In a country where Christmas time is synonymous with stinking hot, dry weather, drought, flies, sunburn, the beach and skin cancer checks, everything is going a little weird.
What's going on nature? Get your shit together.

Re: Sick of it!
Yes indeed! The weather is going arse over tit everywhere, but none moreso than downunda! NZ is also having freaky patterns (four seasons in one day kind of thing). What a logistical nightmare! First the Gulf War stopped all progress (why oh why in the first place wasn't the project located in Broken Hill?), then when they get their shit together for a second more feasible attempt, using the one location they should have chosen to begin with the area is too "green" to proceed, so rather than look at alternatives we'll just shelve the whole deal until the weather "behaves" itself? I am sorry but this just seems like spin doctoring to me, despite the fact that the weather is up the shit, et al it just seems like a reason to shelve it was being sought, due probably to lack of funding, time constraints and deadlines, actors commitments/schedules, etc.... To get every element and every piece again in the one place at the same time after a shelving is nigh impossible, and Surely investors and production companies patience are wearing thin, or perhaps they have lost faith completely. Think about it...Whatever reason, act of god etc.... If you were a producer putting up the capital for a project that fell over twice, costing you many thousands, possibly millions in lost revenue paying for casting, location scouting, prop design/building, actors wages (which pretty much start once the actor(s) are on location, shooting or not), plus freight, transport, catering, etc....etc.... Where would your loyalty be? I would say with the board of directors, as your credibility is best left intact, as opposed to flogging a dead horse and waving it in front of your investors after two successive failures. Each successive time the project fails to launch, credibility is taken down another few notches, and faith in the project both from the creators and the waiting public's point of view wanes heavily, thus affecting projected box office revenue forecasts, which to a board of directors is what it is all about.

In a time when transformers movies are box office gold is probably the best time for action car carnage type movies...it's also a time when the environment is foremost in everyone's mind so it could have a deeper meaning for those watching it.Aviator wrote: Perhaps they have decided that based on current trends a fourth Mad Max movie would not "sell" in an entertainment climate where it is perhaps considered a dead duck?
