I Started this one half way through buiding the Rat, Had an idea of a light recon/scout car.
small and light with no armour and light weaponry. but fast and agile "for something thats built in a shack in the desert !"
I wanted something that looked like the Race Cars of the 40's & 50's but more Patchy looking.

The chassis and Engine is from a 1/24 Mercedes 300 SL 1955 Milli Millia race car while the Body work is taken fom a
1/35 Mk V Super Marine Spitfire. and the wheels from a 1/24 series III Landrover.

More progress on the SUPERMARINE 300 Scout Car.
most of the Build process is finished and the model now has a coat of primer to see if everything goes together.
still have to attach the steering wheel and gear shifter and a few other bits but now its about choosing a colour for the car,

here you can see how a lot of styrene strip was used to build the suspension and chassis sections.

as the vehicle is a Scout, it does carry a single Cannon but its more about speed than weepons which is why there are no big bull bars or heavy roll cage and body work is kept to a minimum.

The Car will again be heavily weatherd, And I have decided the car will be Blue. I like the colour of the Early Land Speed Record BLUEBIRD's and thought the colour will suit the shape of the SUPERMARINE 300,

I will post more photos soon as I am working on this and the Rat this weekend.
All the best,

Amazing fabrication work. Is that an inline 8 cylinder engine? Can't tell from the pictures and I know squat about MB.
The only thing that looks out of place is the air scoop, it looks kinda placed there and not fully attached (constructive critcism). The exposed oil cooler (?) on the left side looks kinda vulnerable.

Thanks for your Comments,

the Engine is a strait "slant" Eight. developed by Mercedes in the late 40's and was used in all there race cars and later road cars.

the Scoop on the front ride side sits over the Carb and inlet Manifold, the idea is that the car should look patchy bits thrown together to serve a purpose.
there will be some straps and bolts applied to the scoop and rest of the body work during the weathering process.

Very nice work.

I'd mount a Lewis gun or a Vickers gun, with a coiled tube out to a cooling tin/jerry can. very long range desert group...

Hey Toecutter,

Thanks for your comments and what a Bloody good idea :o a Vickers Machine gun would look great !

I have already down loaded lots of photos of Vickers and will start building a couple this weekend (Im building another classic looking car as I like the look of this one)

the Vickers will suite the look of the car :D

Thanks a lot for the idea mate.

All the best.

Barry.

Thanks Cassius,

started the weathering phase now, with patchy and Rusty streaks. This is just the base layer for now to add more thinner layers on to before the grunge and dust.

Excellent work there man! That weathering is brilliant and the vehicle has a real good sense of functionality.
