Who wants my MM2 Road Warrior knee pad
The knee pad has been the last major missing piece of my costume for a while now.
I've been working with a local leather shop to try and create one that is up to my standards. They made a version that I thought was good, but I wanted it improved.
They are working on the new version now but since I bought the first version I thought I would offer it up here to you guys on the board.
The normal price would've been $55 but he gave me a discount since I'm having him make a second one with some changes. So whoever here wants it can have it for $45 plus shipping. I think that's a pretty good price for a custom made piece like this. Quality leather, quality workmanship, very durable etc.
Here's what I like about it:
It captures the overall look of Max's knee pad.
It has the raised ridges and the seam across the middle.
The leather has lines stitched in all the right places.
The strap on the back is a VERY accurate replica of an original Rossi strap (I borrowed Karol's so they could use it as a guide)
The rivets have a messy look to them, like the screen version.
It's leather back and front - no plastic or metal.
It's weathered.
Here is some of what I don't like about it (and what I'm having them fix on my next one hopefully)
It's a bit too tall. Should be more round.
The rivets should be a darker brass or bronze color
I'd like it to be a bit stiffer.
The raised ridges are a bit too pronounced.
That's about it. So if you're not as insanely picky as me, this will be a great addition to your costume. First payment to come through gets it.

Count me as interested, do you have any pictures of the back of the pad and the pad on your knee while wearing a boot? Is the backing leather thick or is it thin and soft like the pads front leather?

Re: Who wants my MM2 Road Warrior knee pad
I don't have my boots right now, they're at the leather shop being used as the basis to mod someone else's pair.
But I threw on a pair of jeans just so you can see the pad on a leg. Bear in mind a few things:
1. My legs are kind of short (I wear a 30" inseam) so this pad will look a bit smaller on a larger person)
2. This pad will probably slip down when you wear it. As will any pad attached in the manner that Max attaches his (just a single strap around the back of the knee). There are scenes in the movie where you can see the pad has slipped down or where they've left it off completely (probably because it was a pain in the ass). I plan to use some hidden velcro or something on my final pad to keep it in place.
3. This pad is not stiff enough, so the sides bend in a little too much for my taste. But that could be correctly pretty easily with something glued to the back. Even some stiff cardboard might help enough.
4. The backing leather is a thin, soft leather like the front of the pad (though slightly different). That's one of the reasons the pad isn't as stiff as I would like. But it's not totally floppy either. And the leather itself does feel pretty tough and durable.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
I'll also attach a pic of the back of the pad.
(Note, the photos of the flash make the pad look too shiny etc. The photo in my original post above is a better representation of what this pad looks like in terms of color, weathering etc..)

Man I'm really torn.
It's such a awsome knee pad but alas I have short legs too and I think it would be too big for me. Honestly if someone was a bit taller than you and I it will be perfect for them. As much as I'd love to have the knee pad I just think it would be too big for me.

Still up for grabs then.
I might eBay it in a week or two if no one here wants it.

Re: Who wants my MM2 Road Warrior knee pad
Hi, sorry I never updated this thread. I sort of forgot about it.
The knee pad ended up being cannibalized for another costume, so it is no longer available.
If I end up with another extra one in the future though (it's possible) I'll let you know.

Re: Who wants my MM2 Road Warrior knee pad
I found out recently that the original was made from a 1930s cricket pad. But cricket pads are not easy to find here in the U.S., and one from the 1930s one is nearly impossible to find just about anywhere.
The latest one my leather guys made is a pretty good approximation though. I'll post pics of it when I do a new photo session of my whole costume.
