Q: What is next for you?

A: I'm off to Boston on Aug. 19 for a film Ben Affleck is directing called "The Town." It's based on the novel "Prince of Thieves" about a group of career bank robbers. One of the robbers falls in love with a girl we rob. So it's a great crime thriller and romance. It's a lot of fun.

I'm a robber. Ben will direct and star. It also has Rebecca Hall ("Vicky Cristina Barcelona"), Jon Hamm ("Mad Men"), and Blake Lively ("Gossip Girl") plays my sister.

I'm also fighting to do the new Mad Max film with George Miller. That might be next summer. I'm screen-testing and meeting George Miller.
So, the big question is....for what part? Additionally, this article further supports the rumored Summer 2010 shooting schedule.

Renner's IMDb profile.

This is STROKE OF GENIUS casting.

Renner is AWESOME in HURT LOCKER - my fave film of the year.

Astonishingly good news.

In other words... if its not clear... he hasnt got the part, whatever it may be.
Genius casting?? being casted and doing a screen test are two totally different things...

Doesn't LOOK the part, IMO.
I've never seen him act, though.. Only fair to give him a chance.

I'd still hope for Colin Farrell if they must recast.

It doesn't matter... Without Mel (here we go again) it is going to suck anyway. Mel Gibson might just be an actor, but he still carries with him the face, body language (needs some toning up now though) and voice of the character we love.

Hurtlocker was a good movie, I enjoyed watching that one. Dark and gritty, putting you on the edge of your seat. But he would be a bad choice for Max Rockatansky... as there is only one right choice...

I just saw THE HURT LOCKER last night. Great Movie. Though Jeremy Renner doesn't look like Mel, He seems like he could play a good Max. But I still want an Aussie actor. :)

Aussies aren't happy that an American is being considered for the role.

If the new film portrayed Max on the older side as a semi-retired hermit living off the roads (think Clint Eastwood in "The Unforgiven," "Pale Rider" not to mention "Gran Torino" --- he played it "old" in these films) then Mel at his present age could indeed work in the film.

But if we have a young-ish Max kickin' butt and takin' names on Fury Road, though it pains me to say it, the film would have to be recast with a somewhat younger actor. Casting Mel as if he were twenty years younger might backfire. The last thing I would want to see is an embarassment a la the later James Bond films when Roger Moore was just waaaay to old to be a believably-deadly Bond...

Jeremy Renner was fantastic in "Hurt Locker" which was an excellent, gripping film... I just don't see him as Max. I'm a Yank and I'd much rather see an Aussie (or Irishman or Brit) cast in the role. Colin Farrell or Eric Bana would be interesting choices...both of those actors have a dark undertone which I think would work well for the torured ex-cop. No doubt, there are plenty of Australian actors who would be great in the role.

Now, all this being said, I would still love to see Bruce Spence return as the Gyro Captain! You can never be too old for a supporting/character role! That would be too cool!

Regards and Aloha,
