Finally made the journey!!!

Post by MFPmaniac »

Well, after 2 years of planning and one near miss, I finally made it down to Australia! I unfortunately didn't have much time, so I centered on one particular area during my stay. I did the MM2 tour in and around Broken Hill and Silverton. Absolutely un-f#cking believable!

I met up with Adrian on the May 27, and ran up to BH and Silverton the following day. I was running around up there until June 2. Met up with Ian Mitchell along the way while we were there. We just took it a day at a time, and it couldn't have been planned out any better than turned out!

Here are a few pics from the pinnacles and compound area.

Lot's more to come, stay tuned!

The chain in those handcuffs is high-tensile steel, it'll take you ten minutes to hack through it with this, now if your lucky ? you can hack through your ankle in five minutes. Go !

Thanks for uploading the photo’s – very jealous. In one picture, I think you can still see a crater where they blew up the compound – or is it my eyes?

Thanks again,

Simon, no worries. Always next time mate! :D

Ferret kid, it's not your eyes. Although it's not quite a crater, you can still see where the moat was dug around the edge.

Here are some more!

A few bits from the compund: remnant of V8 badge, broken taillamp lens, chunks of windscreen or side glass, and several bits of twisted, melted, and bent steel and sheetmetal.

A few shots of Stephen's Creek. The first pic is the tree that Max just pulls up to when he sees the gyrocopter, the next two are where Max pulls into the creek. The last two are looking down the road where Max approaches from.

More to come later.

Brilliant, Aaron.
There is no greater feeling than when a person witnesses the completion of a life long dream (except maybe parenthood). I can see it in your eyes when your sitting in the coupe looking through the windscreen.
Well done.

And huge credit also to Chris for the lend of MAX-079 for your photos. Im sure it would have topped off your trip to the Mundi Mundi lookout.

Love that last pic with the overcast horizon framing the coupe. Worthy of desktop wallpaper.
Thank you sharing your journey with us so far.
Kick her in the guts Barry !

Thanks guys!

Pat, sorry I didn't get a chance to meet up this time. Planning another Aussie run around 2012-13, so I'll definitely try to make it your way! BTW, the burgers ARE better at Hungry Jacks!LOL

Gasoline, I'm well ahead of ya, already on the desktop! 8-) I wouldn't call it lifelong exactly, but definitely a good 10 years or so! Definitely worth the long wait!
And you're absolutely right, a big shout to Chris for letting me run the beast out for some pics!

Actually had a bit of a unique experience after the photo op at the lookout. When we left the pub in the morning, it was empty at around 10:30 or so. We were out for an hour or so, then headed back. And rounding the corner to pull up to the front of the pub, it was bloody packed! Then I got swarmed by a bunch of folks with cameras and was thinking "WTF!!!" Well, turns out IGA had their "Bush Bash" I believe it's called, taking a bunch of disabled and special needs kids on an outback trip. And that morning they happened to end up in Silverton just after we left for the lookout. A couple of folks thought the old car had been put to pasture, and a few didn't think it ran anyways. So you can imagine the surprise these folks had! I gave up trying to find a place to park when one of the people in attendance ran up and begged to have some of the kids get photos next to or in the car. It made for quite a few smiles, and a few snickers from Adrian and Chris as they looked on at me having my 15 minutes in the spotlight! Between having a chance to drive the BoB out for photos, then THIS, it made the trip of a lifetime that much more enjoyable!

Here are a few pics of that event!

Here are a couple of short vids we made as well.

I'll get some more on here soon. Got some pics from the Interceptor rollover site to come, plus some extras just for fun. :D
