Last August, myself an another member of this forum paid $150 each on ebay for the kit that is for sale from MIM. We never got the items. MM is using the same photos as the ebay seller did. Either the seller used their photos and kit or he sold it to MIM. The scumbag was going by the ebay name of moonstar_56. From others that have been ripped off by him I found out his real name, which is listed below. If anyone ever comes across him in CA, kick his fucking ass for me...

I recently bought that Monsters in Motion MM2 to MM1 conversion kit for the AutoArt Road Warrior interceptor. I had heard some bad things about people ordering this kit on eBay and getting jagged, and the photos were the same, but still I figured since Monsters in Motion was a big outfit, it wouldn't hurt to put an order in. I've dealt with them before, and sometimes these "garage kits" can take a year, if they don't get canceled before then, and wasn't expecting anything in the near future. Turns out I got it just 5 days after they told me not to expect it until at least summer [which cost me a $35 overdraft fee on my debit account, but that was a risk I took].

Anyhow, it's a nice kit... lots of flash, but very thin flash. Surprisingly sharp detail on very small parts, and it was color cast in black, so painting isn't even necessary.

The boot is all resin, so I think I'll use the one off my diecast Biante '73 XB GT model to mold the spoiler, and then use the metal boot for the interceptor, and the plastic one to mold a metal boot for the XB. I did mold some metal castings before from a boot that a fellow modeler lent me, but had a distortion issue caused by the swelling of the silicone under heat [lots of metal in the part with the spoiler]. I'll try again using lost wax casting or some other approach.

The provided lower fascia looks almost exactly like the one a friend sculpted for me to cast... doesn't require me to cut off the top half to mate to the interceptor model, though. The nose I already had is a perfect mate for the Biante XB GT's, and I'm still going to use it on mine. Haven't decided on the color yet... black, or Tango. I'm keeping the tango/black color scheme.

I went ahead and cast up some different metal boots molded from both the Monsters in Motion conversion kit and my XB GT model. This time the distortion was low enough to actually fit the parts to the model. The boot w/spoiler is a bit heavy, so I think I'll go with the XB boot and a resin spoiler. Casting voids still need to be filled with metal putty, but you get the idea. I'm going to re-vent the molds to try to get rid of them.

Thanks. Still trying to get it right. I just really wanted a metal boot on the Auto Art model instead of a plastic one, and I didn't want to sacrifice the one off my Tango XB GT.

I finished the bodywork on one of the metal deck lids I cast.
