Why noone is building a Nightrider replica ...

Post by PacificMuscle »

The prices being paid for HQ coupes has followed Falcons ...

As nobody seemed particularly interested in resolving what the Nightrider base car was ... far more fun to bicker with each other apparently ... I won't bother pointing out why it wasn't an LS like this nice original example.

But $45000 for a six banger LS is pretty astounding.

Yep, prices are crazy lately...my 2nd Torana hatch will be going back to Oz for sale, no point in trying to move it here, when I can probably get in the mid 20s for it with a good paint job done. (swapping in a fresh 308 to replace the strong 202 is a go anyways..)

just because he's asking for $45k doesn't mean he'll get it tho? and its reserve not met too at this point.

I agree ... but he does have a bid.

It's worth having a look at Chargers and Toranas as well ... things that would have been on a trailer headed for the tip are going for silly money.

its true that the prices of base cars are crazy but that doesnt explain why no one has built one before.

Perhaps its something to do with the impact of the car on the viewers. There have been heaps of 4 and 2 door replicas because being Max or the MFP is better than being the Nightrider. It may be more about what the car represented in the movie rather than how cool it looked. I am not sure if that is too deep an idea but i cant explain it any other way. The monaro was a tough looking muscle car and worthy of replicating, just not with a 45k base car.

Pete, you have been involved in the car scene here for a while, what do you think???

... have to admit, I've never seen a ceramic ignition resistor on a North American GM product... just Chrysler

Here's an idea, too. When you see the BoB or Max's Interceptor for the first time, or even Big Bopper after they join the chase, they have such a presence that they just kind of overwhelm you with their personalities.

The Nightrider, and for that matter March Hare, are all but used up by the time we first see them. Perhaps that explains why there are only two (to my knowledge) replicas of March Hare as well.

Just my two cents in the pot.

Hey Nelson

My best guess is that ... like you and I and many others ... most folk want THE car from Mad Max. If there was someone building all the cars the it would have to be at the top of the list. I'm suprised that neither Scott S or Gordon H has done one.

A couple of years ago it was easy to find a HQ coupe for a few thousand bucks ... not any more!

I had one identical to this one ...

same orange on orange but an immaculate 253 manual without the dodgey sunroof ... and it took me months to sell it for around three and a half thousand ... that was 1996.

Only two years ago there was a sheel in a front yard in Bowral for $1500 which I thought was outrageous!
