I'm swapping the grocery-getting 6-cyl with a 467ci V-8 and need to swap tanks to match in my XB. Where can I get a decent or repro 35(?) gallon long-range tank, and how much are they running? Mine is the short-range style with the sunken spare tyre and has large dents in the bottom...maybe a gallons worth. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

There's one on OZ Ebay at the moment. Not sure what it's up to though.

I've got a Rare Spares 140 Litre tank in mine. It's aluminium with no spare tyre well. I forget what it cost me. It was a few hundred.

Here's a couple of photos:

"Local pick-up only." Bummer.

If the one that is selling for $800.ooAU at Ford GT Perf. would fit an XB, it would still be too much, then add at least $200.ooAU for shipping.

I can have one of the guys over at Special Rejects...I mean Projects quote me an aluminum cell with foam and baffles to see if it'd be any less, that would look similar to yours. The other option is cut the top off the original, beat the dents out and add new sides to make it taller...and worry about leaks due to my spectacular welding abilities. I wonder if my full-size 235/60/R15 spare would fit in the recess...have to try it.

UPDATE: I just talked to my buddy who just happens to have a spare sheet of 18 gauge steel that we can make a top and side extensions to weld together. He also brought up the good point of the epoxy slush sealer that you line the tanks with, that helps seal it and keeps the lining clean.

Rick- That's a slick look, very clean.

Hey Jay- If all else fails why not try taking a tape measure down to the local salvage yard. I'd imagine a Torino should be real close. That might give you some after market options too.

Vermont SA: Local Pick-up only. That's the one Rick pointed out. Just taking the depression out should give me several more gallons without cutting the sides.

no, its vermont south Jay, not South Aust, so that is in the east Melb area. Could always ask the question, there is someone here who ships to the US not far from there.

I showed the E-bay pic of the auction tank to my buddy here at work and he says to just cut the depression out of it and weld in the top plate, then do the epoxy sealer inside. That should be enough of an increase in fuel load...but now it'll cost me $125.ooUS to fill up.

Our gas prices in Michigan, for the low grade, is over $3.50US a gallon, or $1.12AU a litre. With the wage differences between the two countries, we're paying almost the same rates now...if not more.

Just be glad you don't pay as much as we do. About EUR1,45 a litre. And we pay road tax separately every month, if you drive your car or not.

I don't suppose a long range XY tank would fit an XA/XB? My tank is 35 Imp gal which is like 43 US gal. To fill with supreme I have to spend roughly $165. I thought I read somewhere that Phase 4s used two bottom halve tanks sandwiched together to make a huge long range. Any reason why this couldn't be done?
