Turn Signals
When I put my turn signal on it is really not asking permission to get into the lane. In Chicago it means "I am coming over, I will need an inch."
What pisses me off is when you put the signal on is that the guy 100 yards behind you speeds up so you can't get in.

At least you use them. I had some dumb lady all of a sudden slam on her brakes, then use her turn siganal about 3 ft before she turned. Later I was behind some dude who didn't even use his, but at least he started slowing down enough before his turn.

well the new thing here is do not use the turn signal cause you do not want to alert the other drivers that you are up to something. Thnx YDX7 I thought I was the only one who noticed it.

I think turn signals are purely an option for most taxis drivers. The times I've been cut up by one of those a**holes... Sheesh!!
Here, in France, they have this system, when you overtake a slower car on the motorway you put on you turn signal and leave it on all the time you're overtaking, then when you're past the car you flip on the other indicator and pull back into the original lane. I tell ya it's very different to the UK. Drivers hog the fast lane... and won't leave it unless they really have to.... but then there's a lot more traffic on the roads of the UK than in France so I suppose you need to else you end up in a nose to tail gridlock.

Same in italy Biker, when overtaking in the left lane only the left turn signal remains on because the overtaking speed can be so much higher.
Chicago drivers tend to bend the "rules" a bit and for the most part are paying attention. You do sometimes encounter the guy or girl in the left lane who will not move over because they will be damned if let are doing the speed limit and you dare to hesite to pass on the right side.
MIchigan drivers, ( lived ther for 18 years) tend to do this more often.
But it is different from place to place.

After spending almost 2.5 weeks in OZ and 3500 miles in two cars, I made the left turns a little short a few times and started to treat the STOP signs as Give Ways (that's a no no) when I came back for about the next week or so. I still tease my buddy by driving on the other side (when it's clear). He gets REAL nervous...HAHAHAHA!!!

G,day , I drive a semi trailer around sydney australia and when you put your indacator on it means speed up and try and run into the truck or better drive under it !!!! , and the best part is it gives them the right to yell abuse because you had the nerve to get into THEIR lane . Then theres the rule that if there's a truck in front of them your allowed to do what ever you like to get pass it , HA HA HA HA but just to make the day interesting I make them work for it ! Sorry I got a little excited but that's truckin in oz , have a happy day .
I survived the overnighter days .

Biker: Your system is grand. I loved driving my Peugeot at a buck sixty (kmh people, no 405 goes 160mph). and whenever I had to pass, and a slower person was in front I'd just put my indicator on and they got out of the way.
Try that in the Netherlands and they stay in front of you on purpose. Here in the US I don't care, I pass whereever I want. But you have to watch out since a lot of people here don't use their indicators at all...
