Was Gyrocaptain in on the plan?

Fellow Maxians: I know some of you hate IMDb, but there was an interesting assessment made recently by one 'gyrocaptain' there on the MM2 board (who may well be here), and that is that the Gyrocaptain was in on the fact that the rig was a decoy. The final look he gives Max, with the raised eyebrows, was a signal to Max, both an apology (IMO), and a poke that he'd just gotten a dose of his own medicine (think about the empty shotgun Max kept threatening Gyro with). Max gives a sheepish grin, which I've always taken to mean "Yeah, mate, they got me. But no hard feelings".

What choo think?

That's a pretty big interpretation from a pair of raised eyebrows. There was no good reason to tell him or trust him with that kind of information. The fewer people who knew about it, the better. I'll bet there were some in the tribe who didn't know either.

Raising your eyebrows like that can be interpreted for dozens of reasons. I took it as:

"Hiya mate, I see you survived, me too, don't know how though. Sheeesh what a sh*tty day it's been so far eh? Hey you gotta a light for this cigar?"

Personally I'm on the fence about whether Gyro knew or not about the sand in the tanker instead of petrol (sorry for the spoiler there folks) Even so it didn't stop him defending it during the chase scene, when he could just have easily flown away.

it could go either way..he crashed landed but still came back to the truck wreckage where max was staggering because they were partners..but also pappagalo,s plan to use the truck to punch their way out while the juice was hidden in the vehicles..so the tribe must have been in on that ..all but max..

A friend of mine was convinced that Gyro was with the Defenders from the beginning.. His job was to find some poor Sap to drive the tanker..

Obviously he's meeting Arkie's character for the first time, and Curmudgeaon had obviously never seen the Copter before.. So I think this idea is pretty well busted..

As for Gyro being in on the Dirt thing..

Yeah, I think he was in on it.

Screwloose got it spot on, they got them both, he might as well have said look at us pair of pr**ks, fell for it good and proper, looks like its the 2 of us again....

Poor bugger if he had drawn the short straw to spend his days burried in sand on the off chance someone would pass by the copter in the hope he could convince them to drive the truck. That was Papagallo's job at first anyway

Like Brian S says they had no good reason to tell or trust him, and as for following the tanker, he thaught it was full of petrol, if you were in his situation and had the slightest chance of filling the tanks you'd do the same.

Now theres another question....Did Gyro spend his days burried in the sand to catch passers by? in the Desert heat Id like to think not lol

He must have been a fast mover to get buried when he saw a car coming by!! lol

Where else was he going to go? The place he needed to go to meet up with the tribe was 200 miles away. The copter would never get there puttering along the ground at 10mph. Max was never his partner. He went back to the wreck to figure out a new plan, see if Max was alive, grab the shotgun, salvage a vehicle, whatever.

This was Pappagalo's plan. The feral kid wasn't in on it. I doubt the 3 defending the rig were in on it. Who's to say how much fuel they had in the first place? It made sense to carry extra fuel in the other vehicles. They needed to go 2000 miles and the tanker may not have made it.
