Question about mad max 1 ending...
I saw Mad Max II and III before I saw 1, and i was just wondering why the end of the world happened after 1 and before 2. It seems that the way mad max 1 was filmed, the end of the world was not even supposed to happen. It seems like after 1, some writer got the idea of "hey, lets make the sequel post-apocolyptic". It just seems like mad max 1 leaves you hanging and mad max 2 starts while leaving too much out. Any thoughts? did i miss something in the story?
Ill drive that tankah!

Question about mad max 1 ending...
There is intentionally a lot left to our imaginations, yes.
I mean, do we really know the war was Between MM1 & MM2RW??
For all we're given on the screen, it could be before MM1 or even after MM2RW.
The closest to official info we have is in the Novelizations, which can't really be taken as Canon.
(As examples of this, The MM1 Novelization shows all the MFP cars being Black with BullBars, the MM2 novelization has Wez shooting Humungous Dead and taking his vehicle and MM3 has Aunty riding to Thunderdome on a BAT)
In some ways, this lack of information fuels our fire of interest.

In my opinion, the sequence in the MM2 monologue shows that Max, the MFP and the road gangs existed in the aftermath of the war. He talks about the war, and then about the ensuing chaos and decay. In this chaos were men like Max, etc...

I agree KAROL, it does look like those two groups, warred, for a while after civilisation collapsed.
Hey, ASS, you can't honestly tell me, you thought things wern't heading there in MAD MAX, i mean check out the world, its going downhill, fast. unfortunately, we never find out how the world is going politically, so we never really find out the cause of all the sh*t, though i reckon it was definently 'Middle eastern oil sh*t', seeing as gas seems to be the most valuable commodity, in the ROAD WARRIOR world (though MAX's reasons for salvaging all he could find arn't as standard as that - he just doesn't want to stop moving). but in MM 1, the police force is almost non existent, and outnumbered 10 to 1, by marauders and gangs. It looks inevitable to me.

Good one, Karol. I always thought that the war happens before MM1 starts. There's a "post-war" feel about the whole setting.. Low morale, low hope and as Rock sez, there's virtually no lawmen. I had assumed that beyond the (short) reach of civilisation, the wasteland is full of barbarians and thugs. Max's city is near the coast too and you don't see so much as a river in MM2, so obviously Max had entered deeply into the deserts and wasteland of war-torn Australia by then. Who knows.. maybe 'their place in the sun' was back in the direction Max had come from, where the damage and the rot was not as severe.

Question about mad max 1 ending...
See I'd be in the camp of MM was leading up to the War, Society was starting to crumble and the fuel supplies were starting to dry up hence the lawlessness started to creep in.
The MM2 book says "The cities are now nothing more than shells"
But in MM we see the opening chase sequence where Marche Hare (correct me if i am wrong) says " Christ they are headed for Population"
I always took it Poulation was the name of the City, thus a city was still in existence, so its possible others existed, and the war hadnt happened just yet..
Pray hes out there!!

Question about mad max 1 ending...
"Population" as the name of a city or town.. that's an angle I'd never thought of.
I always figured by "Population" they meant.. Well, A Place with People.
Even in a Full Scale Nuclear War, Not every city in the world would be Hit directly.
There simply aren't enough Bombs, despite what Popular myth claims.
Only major population centers and Military bases would be targetted.
Depending on the size of the aggressor's arsenal and their accuracy, Many major population centers might even get passed over in favor of making sure the Military targets were neutralized.
In any case, the Infrastructure of the targetted country would be trashed and these surviving cities would decay quite rapidly.
They could indeed appear as they did in MM1.
Anyway, It's all just theories, isn't it?
Myself, I'm undecided as to when I believe the Nuclear Exchange occurred in these movies.

Question about mad max 1 ending...
Never in 25 years did I ever think MM1 was after the war, where did that one come from?
We are talking about a nuclear war aren't we? no signs of that in the first movie, unless it is normal for nightclubs, cafe's, pubs and business's to run as normal after the bombs drop!!!
Break down and decay of law and order and civil structure yes, but war, don't think so.
