Checked out a link someone sent me to "theforce.net" which is a startwars fan site (suprise!)
theres a section there called fan movies. These are made (often with suprising amounts of professionalism) by the fans as 'possible stories' related to movies eg startwars, maxrix, batman.
Anyone ever come up with a short film idea related to max that would be worth making?

There's been talk. Don't know that anyone has done a srceenplay, per se, yet. However there has been some pretty exellent fan fiction written.
We have the means (if not the finances) amongst the members on this board. Costumers, Artists, Mechanics, Car owners, Cameramen, etc. All we need is the capital, and a script.......................

Hi All.
Anyone who has seen the last Interceptor to Los Angeles video, will have seen the "short" of the chase scene that we filmed about 3 years ago.
The Black on Black was not supposed to be the Max car but rather it was a replacement constructed after morale fell in the MFP following the defection of Max.
The replacement car was driven by a cop who had seen it all, road wise and war weary he was now also questioning his own future, roomers were strong that the MFP was to be disbanded and the roads put under the control of the military.
We had a "Closed" road, and the chase dealt with the Black on Black (my original car the same car as on the Calendar cover featured just last week on Peters site opening page). Running down a renegade ex-cop in a 4 door sedan. The full chase started with the call out and the Interceptor rushing to reach a cut off point (road junction) before the speeding 4 door.
The driver of the speeding 4 door was actually Grant, but on film we used an Actor who volunteered just to be involved to play the "Film" driver.
The Interceptor made the cut off point before the 4 door and then chased down the renegade cop and his car.
The chase ended with the ex-cop surrendering at the end of the sealed road and an entrance into the wasteland.
The short film ends with the Black On Black driver not bothering to apprehend the renegade cop. This comes after the realization that the ex-cop was driving the original prototype pursuit special, and he was in fact helping a tribe situated far out on the isolated salt flats.
The entire thing was much more complicated than this, and we cut huge sections of dialogue out just because we ran out of time on the day.
The scene was really only a part of a full film that I have written in only a skeleton format. The thing has never been fleshed out because I do not see the point in investing time and progressing to a full script. Sadly I am strong in the belief that it will never evolve into a real film. However I am just as convinced that I could make it a success as a straight to DVD release.
Anyone got a spare few hundred thousand dollars???
Because we have everything for this in Australia, the locations and the cars and the story line.
Cheers

Much as I'd love to have a crack at a 'Max' short film ... and yep I have a script ... there is one major impediment.
Kennedy-Miller are the copyright owners of the characters, images and content.
Quite propely I think that they would come down like a ton of bricks on any money making venture haning off the back of their intelectual property.
Something like the Addicted to Bass clip can get by on the basis that it is a parody. Maybe a parody short could get by but that doesn't allow the kind of tribute/continuation that you guys have in mind.

XAman, you're quite correct.
One question though. In 'Weird Science' Wez, played by the same actor, appears. Is there a copyright issue here?

Again I think ... and I'm no lawyer ... that they would rely on parody. Then again the US laws may be different.

I would assume that you would need Kennedy-Millers Blessing.....However, (and Peter, perhaps you can shed some light on this) There have been several films directly revolving around K-M's intillectual properties: Welcome to Wherever You Are, Back 2 The Max, and Gordon's Interceptor to L.A. All prominantly feature, without parody, Mad Max (or related images) as Mad Max. Now, perhaps this is allowable due to the documentary nature, but all have (in theory) made a profit from K-M's copyrighted properties. I would therefore assume that a fan film (if not in direct competition with, say, Fury Road) would be feasable. It's certainly unlikely than any such venture would get a commercial distribution, but assuming it did, would K-M be adverse to a share of the profits?

At the end of the day, I think it all depends on whether or not you're making money from it.
Even a school has to pay royalties to put on plays.

Hi XA.
That is interesting... they can copyright an image?
Not much room to move after that, I know that they had no copyright on any of the actual custom parts that were used to build the Interceptor, Errol Platt confirmed that 20 years ago.
But you say that the screen image is copyrighted. This means that putting a Black on Black into a short film is breach of copyright?
Just because it looks the same.
This must be a gray area, but I could see that a US lawyer would have no trouble slamming us for it.
Dead end then.. Because George Miller would have absolutely zero interest in making a few piddly dollars out of anything we were likely to do, and for many reasons I could see that he would not want to be affiliated in any way with something that to him would be the equal of a local prep-school mid week theater play.
I think he would miss our point .. our point being that the entire theme was and still is.... and it seems forever will be .... underdeveloped.
"Hell George if you don't want to do it ..... we do!"
What a pity Hollywood relates everything thing to money.. Truth is they can stuff the God damn money, You only need the money to feed the Art.. I personally would do it for free... so 30 years from now we could say we did it.... 30 years from now I will have no interest in weather we made money or not, all that I would remember is that we did it... As you get older you become more aware that if you take anything from this world it is not money, but experience and memory... So its really just "Art for Arts sake".
What a pity that Art cannot be allowed to generate Art... for what is Art, and what is its value of Art if it cannot generate in the people of the World more Art?
Opps.. sorry...I shall climb down from the soapbox., and take medication..
Regards
