Mel Gibson's Car

Post by Mitch »

So sometimes my mind wanders when I'm working on the Falcon...

Like the time I wondered if somehow a dinner plate-sized Aussie spider had survived the trip and was waiting to drop on my face as I checked the tranny cooler lines...

Or if Olivia Newton-John had ever made out in the back seat of a Falcon, and where was it now, and was this it..?

So during the trip up to Dearborn, I wondered if Mel Gibson had an XB sitting around on his place. The Mad Max series WAS his breakthrough role, and maybe he'd appreciate the cars anyway. So maybe he has an XB, or if not maybe somebody needs to build him an Interceptor replica. Wonder what he used to drive when he was younger? He had to drive SOMETHING before he hit it big, and I hope it wasn't a Holden!

Comments?

Been sleepin' under the car again...or watchin' too much Xanadu, eh?

They did call him Mad Mel right before he tried out for the role of Max...got in a bar brawl the night before his audition.

Good point about his vehicular tastes...who knows...

I think he does have a Blue Heeler, as I maybe remember something about him having to go to court when it bit a neighbor. It would be cool if at least he drives a BA, and not a Commodore...

Xanadu... (drool). A very pleasant first date movie. For some unknown reason, probably one of my many guilty pleasures, I have the soundtrack. On vinyl. And CD... Why?

"Perhaps it's a result of anxiety"...to see something that you desperately want, but alas, will never have to hold...

Who knows, maybe there's some poor, lonely, little sheila out there admiring your beefcake/Gossling photo on the AFFC board, wishing you were her's, too shy to post, for fear you're out of her reach...completely unobtainable after getting your car autographed by Mr. Goss himself, let alone the Dearborn accomodations...

Mitch,

All I know is that Mel owns the jacket and nothing else needs to be said :)

probably has a poster too.

But i'd bet any money, he had a 'bluey' when he still lived in Aus, in the 80's. after all he was a farmer, and its a farming dog.

yeah that's a neat story! :) he got into a pub fight the night before tryouts cause he wanted a bad guy part. they threw the script at him and made him the lead. har!

I have no idea what he drives tho. ??? he doesn't really seem like a "limo" guy to me.

I was thinking more like full-size van or schoolbus...considering he has, what, seven kids and his wife? Is he starting his own Crack in the Earth gang?

According to what I read long time ago on a cinema review, Mel didn't know how to drive a car when he filmed MMax, and does not like cars very much. He even had not yet the driving license. Sorry.

If you look at his "driving style" in the scenes where he personally drives the V8, you'll notice he's not very comfortable. I happen to remember that he was taught to release the clutch and go in first gear just for some scenes ( The V8 is manual ), like approaching the Gyro Captain's machine on the outback. He really hits the brakes too hard, lol.

Some years after that, when already filming lethal weapon 2, Nigel Mansell ( Brit Formula 1 championship winner and later Cart championship winner ) gave him some lessons about sports driving, because they had becomed friends playing golf!. I read this on a car's magazine.

Funny! But not uncommon.....In the DVD version of "Live and let die" there's an interview with Roger Moore, where he kindly admits that he had a lot of problems with the director during filming, because he closed the eyes when firing a weapon. He was scared by them!

Oh,well, Mad Max is our hero....not Mel...he simply leans his flesh!

He apparently has a penchant for Blueys and also German Shepherd Dogs- I have something in common with the great man Image
