The "Max" we're gonna to see... - DOUBTS
Mad Maxians,
Everyone of YOU know how much I'm hungry about FURY ROAD. Everyone of us is, actually. We are passionate about the MAD MAX subject, and a fourth chapter is a sort of LOST ARK... we're ready to kill in order to see this ultimate, definitive MAD MAX movie.
But I have a lot of perplexities concerning Max... the "Max" we'll see in FURY ROAD. I Had to expose them, in order to clean up my conscience.
1- MAD MAX sew our hero crushed by events. The trauma he lived and experienced DESTROYED him like human persona and Policeman. Max stoppered to be a good guy and became... a burned out, desolate AVENGER. The action scenes were "blank", dried up, picturing one man's hell. After the revenge there is no room for anything. Max is nothing more than a body...a inertia-driven body.
2- THE ROAD WARRIOR sew our hero crushed by events again. The second trauma he lived (Interceptor's destruction - way to redemption) DESTROYED him like driver. Yeah, he played a major role in the final chase scene, but feeling says Max is no longer a mobile marauder, a "driver" in the murderous meaning of the word. He's now a "pedestrian"... he has to become indipendent by machines, in a world where fuel is dyin' day by day. AFTER RW, he become a mix-up between a fighter, a trickster and a resourceful nomad.
3- BEYOND THUNDERDOME sew our hero crushed by events again. The third trauma he lived (GULAG - oldness - sacrifice in order to save his fellas) DESTROYED him like fighter. The Underworld pig battle, the chase scene and the final sacrifice showed an older Max, a "weaker" Max... life goes on, and our hero is no longer what he used to be. He came back to humanity in a "proper" manner, and he came to full circle.
And NOW? Don't you feel a "FOURTH" Max is a gratuitous point of view? A blank one too? After all, THUNDERDOME showed an "older" Max, and a "fighter" Max. I'm scared FURY ROAD has no MORE to say about the character we all love.

This is the GOOD ONE:
Mad Maxians,
Everyone of YOU know how much I'm truly hungry about FURY ROAD. Everyone of us is hungry, actually.

Max stopped to be a good guy and became... a burned out, desolate AVENGER. The action scenes were "blank", dried up, picturing one man's hell. After the revenge there is no room for anything. 2- THE ROAD WARRIOR sew our hero crushed by events again. The second trauma he lived (Interceptor's destruction - way to redemption) DESTROYED him like driver. Yeah, he played a major role in the final chase scene, but development says Max is no longer a mobile marauder, a "driver" in the murderous meaning of the word. In reflextion to this, the action scenes were more brutal,"negative", almost catartic.
He's now a "pedestrian"... he has to become indipendent by machines and "open" to social dealing, in a world where fuel is dyin' day by day. INDEED, after RW, he became a mix-up between a fighter, a trickster and a resourceful nomad.
EVEN ev'ry other character, like AUNTY or IRONBAR, was probably "softer" than what they would have been during the RW time. In reflextion to this, the action scenes were more poignant, positive.
Life goes on, and our hero was no longer what he used to be. He came back to humanity in a "proper" manner; he came to full circle.
And NOW? Don't you feel a "FOURTH" Max is a gratuitous point of view? A blank one too? After all, THUNDERDOME showed an "older" Max, and a "fighter" Max. It gave us what we didn't see of him in the previous TWO movies. I'm scared FURY ROAD has no MORE to say about the character we all love.
[div]Are we gonna see a rehash of the previous THREE MOVIES, with NO RESPECT for those who loved the TRILOGY DEVELOPMENT?

[div]I'm scared. Sincerly.[/div]

These same fears plagued me years ago when I heard there might be a sequel. It would be great to see Max again, but what is the point? Post-post apocalypse?
In my mind, Mad Max went off the rails slightly with Beyond Thunderdone which became obsessed with perfecting the situation to the detriment of character and relationships, although the landscape is doubtless essential.
Number two encapsulated Miller's vision of a ravaged world (or ravaged Aussie at least), and had subtle exploitative elements to convince of situation without needing excessive special effects.
Mad Max 1ended with a viscous edge and emptyness that wasn't quite sustained as the trilogy moved on, but all three films managed to be different from one-another. How will number four set itself apart?
The only option for Fury Road would be to focus in on Max again and his predicament, as a kind of Joe average of the future...perhaps meeting similar drifters, some nice some nasty -who got the luck and had the strength to persevere in a lawless vacuum.

Trilogy development!!!!!! you've got to be kidding. i do not buy into the argument that thunderdome apologists make, the movie was pretty much garbage compared to the other two. i almost think that fury road should take the place of thunderdome.
i think uncle makes a good point about not having much left to say about max though. he's been thru so much stuff that anything else might just seem a bit much. plus, hes got no car and no dog, and they practacally made him in both movies (the car at least in 1). in any case, i hope george miller knows what hes doing with fury road, bc as excited as i am, i dont see how he can deliver given the kind of a character hes got to work with.
but we can always hope. i read some of that "bridge" script on here and while i thought a lot of the dialogue lacked the basic plot seemed pretty good. something like that, max getting back to what he was, it may be COMFORT FOOD for us, but who cares?

Dr. Miller has been mulling the plot for this for 15+ years, and is now ready to make it. I don't know what he's got up his sleeve, but i'm sure it will be pleasing to us fans. Mel even got interested enough to tell Miller he wanted on board . Mel is at a point in his career where he can make his own movies, and judging by what he has produced so far, I'd say he has a good eye for quality. I don't think he would be involved unless there is something special in the Fury Road script. I can't wait to see where the story goes from here.

George Miller has said that he never planned on doing another Mad Max movie, but then he got the idea for Fury Road and it just stuck with him, and now Mel Gibson is on board as well. I just don't think Gibson would have done it if he wasn't excited about it. I have no clue what Miller is going to give us, but I just think it's going to be great.
Thunderdome
We don't need another hero...we've got MAD MAX

I expect in Fury Road to see Max either die or start a new life somewhere. There's only so many times they can have him act a loner and save a group of people. Unless that's what Miller wants. It can still be cool.

boring? you rambled on about the three movies like you were writing some sort of literary analysis about motifs (the man, the driver, the fighter, THE LEGEND?!?). i think you just dont like it that not everyone is blindly optimistic about fury road. i hope its awesome, but im sure people thought thunderdome was going to be great when it was first put out.
i do think the title is a good indication that it might be something better than thunderdome though, it just sounds so badass.
