Instead of a Furiosa pre-quel. I would like to see a Mad Max pre-quel. To show how Max, Goose, Roop, Charlie, Sarse , Scuttle , Fifi ect got into the MFP & their back stories. How the MFP Interceptors all came about. And how the Toecutter Gang got started & how they got Toecutter Gang name.

You might wanna check out the Star Wars fandom because they asked for those things and they run that franchise into the ground with fan service lol

Ok. Thnx for that. Just not a fan of getting away from the original Mad Max theme. The movie is supposed to be about Max Rockatansky. Not a character from Fury Road. Not a fan of FR either. But things could change. Looking forward to September for the Weekend With Hooks Festival at Culgoa.

I could see this as a possibility. View it as a reboot of the entire story arc with a setting starting twenty years from now. Far enough ahead that the dystopia has some time to develop so the story timeframe doesn't have to get shortened beyond rationality before we get close to Max's time. Ever notice how with every new movie the biomechanoid in the Aliens franchise takes less and less time to grow to maturity?
As a comparison, I really like how they are handling Better Call Saul, the Breaking Bad prequel series. It's not trying to be BB, but has it's own set of characters instead of trying to jam another BB character every week.

Hey-
I have, but it's been awhile.
My concern is not necessarily when the story takes place as it is already established (sort of) that it's the story that matters, not the specific details. It could be set in our future and updated to reflect that without affecting the power of the story. Of course, the other side of that argument is to stick with a timeline that diverges from ours in the 70's and maintain a different history and style based on that. The Bladerunner sequel did that. It stuck to what is basically an alternate history concurrent with ours. Some production aspects would be harder, maintaining a dystopian future built on 70's leftovers, but easier in that there is no need to invent suitably futuristic equipment and settings. Almost all pop culture references beyond 82-ish would be contradictory or cast in a new light (heavy metal and punk would take on a much darker significance and relevance in Max's world).
I would want there to be enough time to tell Max's story over a period of time that makes sense, not rush it so that his character has evolve too fast. From season to season you see the MFP devolve into the state they are in at Max's time.

Well, there's a strong sense of continuity in the original trilogy, even in the details. There's coherence, because it's an alternate universe to ours and the Fury Road one.
Since the first "Mad Max" is set in 1994, according to my timeline, I would say that the original trilogy's Mad Max timeline diverges from ours in the fifties or sixties.

My main concern, given how long it takes to make those films, is who's going to take over for George Miller.
Furiosa might just be his final film, if everything goes according to plan it'll be released in 2023 when George will be 77 years old. I can already see the headlines 'granpa Miller kicked everyone's ass at action film genre' all over again.
But there's still The Wasteland to be made and/or abandoned, who really knows what's going to happen with that story or in what shape it's going to materialize. I'm kind of hoping that The Wasteland gets turned into a video game that's under complete directorial control of George Miller. Something he's never had control over ever since he got the idea to transfer Mad Max into the video game realm. It should work out as long as corporate bigwigs stay the hell away from the creative side of things.
It's interesting to see how stories developed by George Miller and his writers can be adapted into various forms, novellas, comic books, games, after all Furiosa was originally supposed to be an anime. Now it's a live action film.
Anyhow, I think the thing we should be watching out for is who takes creative control over this franchise because it will happen eventually. And as much as everyone wants sequels, prequels, sidequels, reboots and spin-offs it's also a surefire way to drive any franchise into the ground with all kinds of fan service. This happened to Alien, Terminator, Predator, Star Wars and many more, Fury Road being a 6 time Oscar winning film is pretty much a hot franchise movie execs would love to milk the living shit out of and thankfully there's still Miller who's holding them back.
Anyway, I don't know if it added much to the discussion but it's just my 2 cents.

I think the whole point of the internet is to make sure we all get to contribute our 2 cents. The nice thing about this one is that there is no advertising to claim its 1 cent! I remember how active everyone was with ideas and theories 10-15 years ago.
I agree about Miller having control to continue his vision. If their is no one suitable, maybe it should die. I mean, virtually none of the imitators has come close to capturing the essence of it.
Not even Waterworld...
