“I would love to bring her back to life, are you kidding?… To have people react to something like that where you went and worked your balls off (laughs), it’s really, really nice, it kind of just puts everything into perspective. I can see how people are responding to her and I look at my little girl and I’m like, ‘Yeah I’d love to play this woman again, definitely.’”
“I haven’t seen George since the Oscars. I think all of this has been really overwhelming for him, and he likes to take his time and he’s very concise. I think if he’s ready, he’ll be ready, and hopefully he’ll call.”
I mean, no kidding right? Obviously she was pretty hesitant and constantly talking down that Fury Road was a one and done thing given how hard she thought the shoot was and clashing personalities with Tom Hardy before the film opened but I guess the mass positive reception and multiple awards will change anyone minds eh?
I'd love to see a Max-free Furiosa spinoff ... there's plenty of interesting stories that could be told which would have a completely different time from Max's legends
given that the only returning character in each of the films at all is max...
sure. whatever. maybe you'll have your own thing. maybe. hey you know what, maybe with this next max film there wont be some stupid social justice movement that's not at all implied in the film pushed on it unlike this last one? because that would be fucking great.

LOL This is like a transcript of my mind when I read the post title.
They were going to make both Fury Road and the anime circa 2009 (and also make a video game).
After the rains in Broken Hill everything was focused on making Fury Road, Furiosa anime got cancelled when they were already filming in Namibia, the partially written video game was taken away from Miller by Warner Brothers around the same time. The game eventually mutated into the 2015 game by Avalanche under WB's supervision. Studio politics for y'all!
Anime concept drawings by Maeda Mahiro eventually resurfaced and I believe if we ever get Furiosa's backstory - it's going to be the same script originally used for that anime.
On top of that we have another script focused on Max called The Wasteland. Those are the only two Mad Max scripts in store for us.
Was the anime designed as a companion piece to the movie like how "Tales of the Black Freighter" was to "Watchmen"? Or was it something else?
I read a recent comment from a guy who worked on FR (I can't find it now, and I can't remember who), and he said WB is willing to throw money at Miller for another movie because of the franchise potential. I think he specifically mentioned the Furiosa prequel.

It was exactly that, a companion piece to the movie, or rather part of a bigger thing that involved the game as well. Miller had big plans for Fury Road, it somehow was materialized eventually with the comic books and the game but I guess not exactly as planned.

That's interesting you said that because from what I've gathered talking with my sources the franchise was in big financial trouble last time I checked. Oscars must've done the trick if WB indeed wants to throw money at Miller again. As for the Furiosa being the next one - from talking to my sources I don't think Furiosa is going to be the next Mad Max movie, everything points to The Wasteland up next with Tom Hardy again. Apparently that's going to be a prequel that takes place 1 year before Fury Road but I'll take that with a grain of salt because the source I got this from is kind of iffy...
As long as they don't do a boring prequel. George Miller said he wants a smaller project before getting back into Mad Max. How about a Furiosa-centered story told years after the events of Fury Road? I can easily picture her becoming a pariah while trying (and ultimately failing) to lead what was left of Joe's Citadel, then cast out into the wasteland with nothing. There's a lot they can do expanding her character without more car chases and explosions while keeping with the world's brutal theme.
Not a fan of prequels too but I think a Furiosa-centered prequel could work.
I would love to see her backstory and how she became an Imperator and lost her arm in the battle
not to forget the opportunity to bring back Hugh Keays-Byrne, the 'Vader' of the Mad Max franchise.
Just fantasizing: the last scene of the film shows Furiosa and how she gets her bionic-arm by Organic Mechanic.
