Fury Road Sequel - The Wastelands

Post by Mad_Jim »

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to know your thoughts on what you want out of The Wastelands? and if you know any gossip?

For me, i know the title is wastelands which speaks for it's self, bud would like to see some ruins of famous land marks like the Sydney Opera house like they did at the end of Thunderdome in the film and to have a big action scene there even if they where just passing through!

would also like to see some of the old MPF from the first movie like fifi , roop and charlie and them being deserters and maybe Johnny the Boy as the main villain (we didnt see him die)

Ok, we gotta rewind the clock a bit to figure out what The Wasteland (not 'Wastelands') is.

It's definitely one of two stories that Miller worked on during Fury Road hiatus. We then heard rumors of filming Fury Road and Mad Max: Furiosa back to back. Obviously only Fury Road was filmed.
Then around the time Fury Road came out, Miller said he's actually got two more stories. One fully developed script about Furiosa that spans over many years and the second was about Max, but it was an unfinished novella at that point.

My money is that The Wasteland is in fact Mad Max: Furiosa, a prequel to Fury Road that's ready to go. Even though I would like to see more Max stories, Furiosa should do because she's a badass character. We would probably get to know how she lost her arm, according to Miller - in a hardcore battle. From that alone we could assume the movie has some cool action in it. Other than that - I'd let Miller surprise us, I'm sure whatever he came up with will be pretty awesome.

Maybe we will get to see Gastown and the Bullet Farm. I'm cool with the next film being in the same location.

i want more Max as it was a Furiosa movie in Fury Road, that's not a bad thing i might add as i thought Fury Road was one of the best films i've ever seen (in my opinion), i want the sequel more like The Book of Eli if they don't go the Furiosa route! just a shame they didn't release that Furiosa cartoon as that would have been amazing!

I'm pretty sure The Wasteland was written as a sequel that takes Max on a completely different adventure. That means no Furiosa. If the intent was to make a prequel movie, I don't think they would have released those comics that detailed the story of Max and Furiosa prior to FR.

I don't post much Biolumen, but I fully agree with your comment above and will wholeheartedly hang my coat on it…well said!

I don't think they revealed that much about Furiosa in the comics really.

The Wasteland isn't gong to be a prequel with Furiousa i pressume, since Charlize herself doesn't know of The Wasteland, meaning Miller wants tell a different story. Honestly, watching Fury Road again, i just want more Max even though he is always on the screen most of the time. Furiousa was badass, but i think the med just overhyped the character which made me tired of it.

I know this has been brought up many times, but I'll bring it up again, Miller's getting old. If there is a next Mad Max movie it could be the last with his direct involvement and leadership. I have to factor that into what I would want most from a next movie. Of course a Mad Max movie without Miller could be good, but we all know how things can quickly go wrong in that case.

I wasn't big on Fury Road, nor Furiosa, but I think a prequel about Furiosa could be cool. If nothing else we'd at least get to see more of this new universe and how things came to be. But if there's only one more Mad Max movie coming, I want it to be straight up Max, wandering into some other situation. I don't really care if it's set before or after Fury Road, just Max to the max.
