I absolutely LOVE this film, it's my all time favorite, and I think it deserves nominations across the board, yes even Best Picture. What about you guys?

If people keep talking about it and WB invests more money in to the film for the Oscar PR and all that...sure!

The Academy Awards should be a testament and award for achievement in film making which would make Fury Road a shoe in. Sadly thats just not the case with amount of politics and smoozing involved for board members to get films nominated.

I'll say this though, if Fury Road did get nominated including Best Picture and Best Director and even included other films like Furious 7 then they'd have one of the most watched Oscars there has been in years.

If "Gravity" can get nominated for Best Picture, so could Fury Road, especially if there are still 10 nominations for the category. If they're going back to 5, then it's unlikely.

Which is why I brought up Gravity, because I thought it was one of "those" movies too. It's technically brilliant, great to look at and has a strong performance from the lead actress (much like Fury Road), but not much else. I personally didn't care for it.

But I agree, the strangeness of Fury Road is probably it's undoing in the eyes of the academy.

True, but then again BIRDMAN was strange too. Also, RETURN OF THE KING won Best Picture, and FURY ROAD is more realistic than that.

that is so true, the academy will consider everything except the quality of the film :? still with all the positive reviews there may be some small glimmer of hope, plus it will be going up against Avengers 2 and Star Wars 7 so probably wont win special effects but might at least get nominated as they will need several for the category. Best Director maybe? Cinematography? Is there a category for most original?

Cinematography, Sound and Makeup award nominations are our best hope I think. The camera work was incredible, especially as most of the action occurred on camera, not added digitally.
