Re: Please Rate FR. No Spoilers please!
Been a Mad Max fan since 1984. It's probably my favorite action hero or tied with Indiana Jones. Been waiting for MM4 since the day after MM3. I saw MM4 in prescreening a few day ago.
I'd grade the series as follows.
Mad Max: A+ (10) (only tiny editing or continuity errors)
Road Warrior: A+ (10) (only tiny editing errors)
Thunderdome: B/C (7/8) (some significant issues, but overall enjoyable)
Fury Road: C (7) (real problems with the film, continuity, the "new" Max, some big plot holes, and feeling of disbelief at times, and other big and small issues. Had some great points, but overall just disappointing).
For comparison, I'd rate the Indiana Jones series:
Raiders: A+ (10)
Temple: C (7)
Lost Crusade: B (8)
Crystal Skull: Failing grade (less than 5)

I gave it a 7. Didn't think at all that it was a bad film, but I'll admit I was slightly disappointed after the ecstatic reviews raised my expectations to stupid levels. The action sequences and pacing are mostly excellent and there's nearly always something interesting going on, but several small things soured the experience.
Without going into too much detail or giving any spoilers, the flashback scenes are awful, the film would probably have been better without the opening narration, and I found the very end quite cheesy. There's also too much CGI and compositing in the chase scenes, though this would be a very minor nitpick for me as overall they were great. Junkie XLs soundtrack featured a couple of good moments, but was mostly the usual anonymous pounding modern score. Brian May pi**es all over it.
In addition to the action, another positive was that Hardy was better than I expected him to be and I like what they did with Max's character overall.

BoB, my grades for all of the above match with yours(which is very rare!) with the exception of Thunderdome and a slight diff on Indy. I give the first 3 Indy movies ALL an A(9), they're just slightly under perfect. Thunderdome to me is just unwatchable so I give it less than 5.BoB wrote: I'd grade the series as follows.

I have pretty much the exact same feelings about it, plus other gripesdecosabute wrote:Without going into too much detail or giving any spoilers, the flashback scenes are awful, the film would probably have been better without the opening narration, and I found the very end quite cheesy. It could be age or too much nostalgic feelings, but I think it's more just that the market changes, the people making the stuff change and usually want to "go in a different direction" as we so often hear from people working in creative fields.

Re: Please Rate FR. No Spoilers please!
One thing to consider is that when MM1 and MM2 came out we had never seen shit like that before so it had a big impact , I know after MM2 all I wanted was more car action like I had just seen , Fury Road delivered that but we knew it was coming this time so less of a buzz

I've voted 9. It is an excellent movie. The biggest thing is the change of the character Max. But because it is also played by an other actor, it's not that bad.
"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.
