is the mad Max fury road,a feminist version of Max

Post by moko »

this movie is kinda starting to piss me off....with all the clips showing Max as some weak EMO....and the Girl in reversal roles as playing the tough Max Character....its like someone is forcing George to make a feminist version of Max.

(im not putting down the actor and actress, that play them....and they do a good job acting)...its just the script

what do you guys think
....apiece here...apiece there....

Nobody forced Miller to create a 'feminist' version of Max. I really don't see a feminist angle to the story at all, Furiosa is just a strong female character. That was Millers idea and plenty of times he mentioned that Max is in there for a ride. Needless to say a supposed sequel to FR was going to be called 'Furiosa'.

I don't think it's fair to say Max somehow became 'EMO' - he's pretty badass in all trailers. The only things that would put a dent on his character are the dreaded internal monologues that felt out of place according to people whom watched test screenings.

And pre-emptively:
If this discussion takes a left turn and becomes about women's oppression and patriarchy in the MM universe, then Tumblr is that way.

Dang man. We're really scraping for something to be angry about. All the Mad Max movies have featured tough female characters from Max's wife through Warrior Woman to Aunty Entity. This is no different. Fury Road is essentially Furiosa s story which drags Max into it but that's the tale Miller wanted to tell but suggesting he was "forced" to approach it that way's a bit baseless after hearing him tell us countless times how he came up with the idea.
"...and it was here in this blighted place, he learned to live again."

It's 2015. We can have female leads in action films.

It's not really a new thing, though. Did everyone forget about Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor?

We actually somehow managed to go backward from that period for a while.

When? Every decade I can remember has had female action stars.

What's worse is that's across all entertainment. The whole #Gamergate thing is just...oof. :?

I will say it's nice to have a female action star who looks believable and could hold her own compared to some recent action movies. I mean Charlize looks buff as hell given how she usually looks.
