Fury Road - Timeline

Post by scfc68 »

I've always enjoyed the speculation & conjecture over the original trilogy, and although it's early days I thought it might be interesting to start something on this now, obviously updating as more info arrives.

We at least know there is no direct continuation to the originals so no need to fit around them :)

Miller has said set 45 years from now so I make that 2059 (although the film has been in production so long that date could be out).

I wonder when exactly the apocalypse started & peaked. Judging from the state of people and the world & the evident mutations there has to be a reasonable length of time since the radiation etc began. The wars must be not that far from the year we are in now for this to occur. How does Max fit in this as his character should have originated as a cop within a society pre apocalypse?? He can't have been in the wasteland for long enough for the scale of change that has occurred?? None of the characters (some who seem barely human) look like they ever existed in a semi normal world with a semi functioning police force?? I can't see how Max can still keep the backstory of a police officer and still fit in this universe. Lets say he has been in the wastelands for 10 years, how has the world gone from a somewhat familiar, Mad Max 1 world to something more resembling Mordor??
Im certainly not being critical as the trailer looks amazing but for example are we saying that Immortan Joe for example was a store manager or electrician only 5-10 years before we see him??
Can any folks follow my drift on this?
id love to see the experience timeliners have a stab at this

In terms of physical mutations I've only seen the two headed geko, which could be very young.

The others effected by radiation simply seem to be dying, which could be over any timescale subject to exposure.

If various parties have headed out into the desert, maybe in search of fuel and water, then it seems reasonable it's something that could have all happened quickly. Will be interesting to see what the citadel is like.

It seemed to me that Max was trying to tune in a radio on a mountain top in the teaser, and the reports were coming in live. That would support the idea he's fleeing from his MM1 backstory.

Well, this is the timeline for the original films:

http://www.madmaxmovies.com/archives/we ... chron.html

Obviously, this is a different film but it should help you piece together things.

If we assume there is some basic semblence of story from the original then:

Max must have been a cop and we can assume that the BoB at the start was his cop car - even if like in the original he stole it etc. Some of those mutants look at least 16+ and older so if you were to suggest that Max has been driving that car in a post-nuclear world for at least 16 years then I think I'd find that hard to believe. I really think it's only believable that Max has been driving that car for a few years as stated in the original chronology above.

I think it's more likely that the extremes in the look of the gangs is because they are far into the "outback". If you watch the trailer, Max looks like he's from a different world to the gangs and Furiosa. He looks like he's just driven a thousand miles from society and reached the edge of hell lol.

I just tried to do a chronology but its difficult because we have to reject a lot of the original films because Road Warrior never happened cause the BoB still exists. Unless you just replace RW with Fury road lol.

Interesting idea about the radio being live. I assumed that was just dubbed over the top to give some hints at what has happened and may just have come off the back of an intro or started an intro that hasn't been finalised yet.

That's what I'm thinking. Fury Road is more or less a huge budget Road Warrior remake.

I think that radio chatter is from the intro, there will be video to go with it in the finished film.

Yeah it was his arm movement while it played that threw me.

He could be. He's got an earpiece, might as well utilize it. But I'm 100% sure he's not listening to stuff that's been overdubbed in the trailer.
