Please excuse me if this has been covered before , but has anyone seen the scene in Beyond Thunderdome where Gecko dies on the dunes just after Screwloose spots the lights of Bartertown and wakes up max . I watched it on blueray last night for the 1st time in years and the scene is completely deleted . I remember the stills of the scene in the movie picture book I had as a kid and I have a vague memory of seeing it in the movie back when it came out . does anyone know if it was in the original theatre cut of the film?

That scene was cut from the theatrical release, apparently in an effort to reduce the runtime of the movie (according to Wikipedia). Skip to 1:38 of the Tina Turner music video clip linked below.

Wiki also mentions another cut scene from the movie.
Max sleeps soundly for the first time in many years in the Crack in the Earth (the oasis). He wakes after dreaming of his wife (murdered by bikers in the first movie) and starts to cry, realizing that he is no better than the "goons and crooks" that he used to hunt as an MFP officer.
I was wondering if this was ever filmed, and if so, was it going to show us what he was dreaming. Sounds like a great scene.

Thanks biolumen , That film clip must be where I remember seeing it from . I would like to have seen the other deleted scene you mentioned as well . If they had used existing footage from MM1 for the dream sequence , keeping it as a black and white Montage ( Alla Road warrior intro ) would save additional filming . Maybe the producers thought seeing Max cry might be one step too far in an already fairly healed character . It would have made a nice bridge through the trilogy though

I fully agree with you.

I just wanted to add that the cut scene from Thunderdome sounds an awful lot like a potential scene in Fury Road as described by the dog trainer working on the movie.
We were using an Australian cattle dog in a sequence when Max is having these horrible flashbacks where people are blaming him for loss of life
Almost sounds as if Miller is using the cut scene from TD in his new movie.

Wait... so this "new" Max could be "our" Max, since our Max lost Dog in MM2. Fury Road could be a proper sequel to Thunderdome...?

This has often played on my mind, as I recall going to the movies when MM3 was released. Im sure I recall Geckos death while watching it in the theatre, but then wondering where it went when I (gulp) watched it on tv/ dvd.

Me TOO roadwarriormfp ! I thought I saw it at the movies . I was only 11 but I remember Anna Goanna ( Justine Clark ) crying trying to wake him and saying , "Get the sonic "and then them spining the record over his head trying to wake him . If I confusing it with picture book I had at the time , I don't know .. but I'm sure I remember the dialogue .

Yes that is what I recall too! I don't remember what killed him.... but I recall he did die on the sand dunes and then they saw the lights of barter town.

Also in the same book there is a picture of Jedediah sitting on the head camel after he jumps from his plane and not on the vehicle like he does in the film.
