Fury Road will either be a blockbuster or a bomb.

Post by chrisjames61 »

My thinking is this movie will have a big opening weekend. If the movie is good, word of mouth will propel the box office. If it is mediocre there will be lots of empty seats not long thereafter. As for myself I am sceptical. What little I know of the plot isn't compelling to me. Having all these super model type actresses doesn't appeal to me. Some of the vehicles look too over the top for me. I sincerely hope this isn't another Beyond Thunderdome. Right off the bat one thing I do know is Tom Hardy is no Mel Gibson.

I always get worried when they talk about sequels before the first movie is even done filming.

..and 3-D and IMAX and Blu-Ray and...

It prolly won't be a box office bomb as studios don't take a lot of risks anymore. FR is violent, action oriented, with hot babes and name recognition so it's suited for all types of audiences. If it's a bad movie it'll at least break even or make money because of the "overseas" markets. Bad movies make a LOT of money nowadays.

Are you saying that if it's good it will make money and if it's bad it will make money? Are you sure you aren't slightly biased... :?: lol

As it happens the recent Dredd movie was violent, action oriented, it had name recognition, a good writer, 3D and maybe lacked the babes and it has flopped. There are no guarantees. Unless it just needed more babes..

Also I would say that Max is not suited to all types of audiences unless they make it a 12. Studios don't want films to be 18s because it limits their potential audience straight off the bat.

I kind of don't agree with the OP. I think this film could do okay but just okay. An 18 cert film in a post apocalyptic setting isn't a recipe for success but we will see. Depends on so many currently unknown factors.

Like a lot of other movies. A movie that basically just struggles to make a profit years after its release with DVD sales and rentals.

Your post actually points out a couple problems. Mad Max never was or will be about "hot babes", this is a post-apocalyptic society, and its not about "bad movies making lots of money". I want to see a movie worthy of carrying on from Mad Max and The Road Warrior.

What I was trying to point out is that I don't think there will be a middle ground where it will do "OK". I think it will either be a smash hit or quickly fade into oblivion killing the franchise.

Especially when you read about delays getting filming in the can and studio execs flown in to look over Miller's shoulder.

Fair point. I think Dredd is a good example of how a film in this kind of ball park can fail to pull in the audiences.
