Haven't really encountered that myself. However, I've been scanning Mad Max related tweets for some time now and I'm surprised at the number of first time Mad Max viewers who call it boring or terrible. I'm even more surprised when they say that about MM2, although it's said about MM1 more often. Example: this tweet made a little over an hour ago.

In 1979 and 1982 these were groundbreaking, original films. In 2012 hey seem very tame. I still enjoy them greatly but times and audiences have changed. A new Mad Max movie first started being talked about in 1997. Its very late in the game now.

Wow Biolumen those pics rock! I can see motobikes and mohawks! and what the hell is that flatbed truck in the middle with the tall boarding pole? For that matter the 57 chevy looking thing with the wide wheel base? Maybe Furyroadcars can help out. Very exciting!!!

Thats the problem with the "modern" audience these days. They tend to compare Madmax with the "now" and dont compare it with other period movies.
"Deul" is another which i think its a great film when compared to others from the early 70s.

Here's a few enlargements with sharpening and curves adjustment so maybe we can see more details.

Yeah I have to agree with you.... its so far removed from the original, and doesnt seem to fit the other movies either, its almost as if they are trying TOO hard with the vehicles,.... I just hope I am wrong and it turns out to be a good movie
