goose fairing search continues

So you are, or are not making a mould of the bike's fairing?

Silicone mould, or something destroyable after the casting is made (plaster, etc)?

Just curious.

The mold is under way. It is about 3/4ths done. The only thing left to do is paint the pattern and rematch the mold to the fairing for a while. It has to sit and reshape itself to the pattern. Then I will finish the mold and start making fairings. The lower fairing is done altogether. Its just the upper fairing that needs work, especially around the headlight. If you look at the previous posts, you can really see a difference. I think it is more movie correct. Not perfect but reasonably close.

I hope you are in the dry part of Iowa.

I wish I had an excuse to be in Iowa with a load of carbon fibre and resin in the back and a few days to play with your mold.

Gotta respect a fellow who takes matters into his own hands.

Not much of Iowa was dry but it is clearing up nicely now. Rivers are still high but at least you can see fences in the fields again.

I wish you were coming by with that carbon fiber and resin also, I could use the help.

The mold I am making is fiberglass. Still a cheap way to go. I am hoping that next weekend I will be able to work on the mold and get it to where I can make a new fairing for my bike. I am giddy with excitement. Its been about 4 years since I started this project. My time is so limmited what with two jobs and a teenage daughter. My wife gets upset if I don't give her enough time too.
I will post pictures as I take them.

OK guys, the mold is done for the goose fairing. I think it looks much better than the first attempt. I also have a dashboard for the fairing that gives it an even more accurate look. I am pinched for time right now but maybe by the weekend I will be able to get one fairing out of the mold to show pictures of. Wish me luck. I also saw a post about Toecutters bike. The rear sets as far as I can tell are not really a production item. They look like they were made out of 1/4" steel plate and fabricated by hand. The footpegs are the front pegs mounted on the 1/4" steel. Just in case anyone cares about my opinion. I didn't think so.

Did the article on your bike come out in the July issue and is it an American publication?

Just be sure to use a good mould release before you pour your fiberglass gelcoat.

Can't wait to see what comes out of the moulds!
