Fury Road has been coming out on top on just about every critic awards list and seemingly always brought up along with Carol. LA Times had a nice article which paints that Fury Road, if you play the cards right, could be mentioned with 10 nominations next week when the Oscars announce their picks:

Who would of thought: 8 months later and we're looking at Mad Max being a heavy Oscar contender.

It's a tribute to just how much of a shake-up it was compared to the usual Hollywood faire!

I'll be amazed if this gets nominated for any Oscar's outside of technical ones, let alone winning.

BAFTA gives Fury Road 7 nominations but shuns it for Best Picture and Director. 'Bridge of Spies' and Spielberg took those spots instead even though few if any critics groups had either on their short lists.

Rotten Tomatoes has awarded the Golden Tomato for Best Reviewed Film to Fury Road.

Miller appeared happy and surprised to learn his old friend Gibson would be a presenter at Sunday's Golden Globes.

"I didn't know that! That's good!" the filmmaker said. "He was down in Australia, making a movie down there, and I won an award for best director for the equivalent of the Australian Academy Awards and, lo and behold, it was Mel who handed it out. So, that was really nice. He's directing a movie called Hacksaw Ridge down there, but I didn't know he was doing the Golden Globes. That's great!"

Gibson, who is a director as well as an actor, has been supportive of the Mad Max franchise's moving forward without him and he even showed up at the premiere of Fury Road last spring.

"He sat right next to me, with Tom just behind us, and he kept on digging me in the ribs and I know he really appreciated the movie," Miller recalled. "He said some lovely things about it. He's a great guy. I know he's had a lot of trouble and turbulence in his life, but deep down, he's a very, very fine man."

As expected, Miller is one of 5 directors nominated for the Director's Guild (DGA) award. Pundits say it's a race between Miller and Ridley Scott.

Oscar nominations are to be announced early Thursday morning.

I wonder why slit would cut his mouth like that with the intention of stitching it back up, like for what possible reason. I guess he's just a masochist, we already know he's an attention seeker.
