Those are his real tattoos, also in Batman behind the scene photos Toms tattoos were showing on his Bane character while in costume and were likely CGI ed out of for the film instead of makeuped out.

No they actually did use make-up to cover up the tattoos for the underground fight sequence. If you check out the Blu-Ray it has a segment about the fight with some behind the scenes photos that shows the make-up actually peeling during filming. I'm sure for FR they'll just have Hardy covered up in layers of the costume since the actual temperatures in the desert during the shoot were almost winter levels.

Another photo showed up though of Hardy doing more firearms training with the same instructor..

These pictures were apparently sourced from Greg van Borssum's Facebook page. Maybe someone with a FB account can provide a direct link. Greg van Borssum has worked with Miller on previous films and is a weapons advisor, weapons consultant and stunt performer on MMFR. Notably, Borssum is a former body builder who (according to IMDb) "placed in the top 6 at 3 Mr Universes".

Yeah, we're scratching the bottom of the barrel for anything MMFR related. I miss searching for and finding all those sneaked vehicle pics.

I only see the photo of him with Charlize, Hardy and Hoult and not the above new one on his FB and only came across it due to a few tumbler accounts so not quite sure on the original source.

EDIT: Nevermind the full photo is on his FB taken last September.

Tom came to the table with a ton of ideas all based on where he wanted to take the character. We spent so much time sitting around talking about character and movement - it was fantastic. Tom didn’t like to rehearse the shorter sequences much and it proved to be a Godsend. It meant he was actually playing catch-up in the fights, as would really happen. It gave me what I always wanted for the fight scenes in this film, which was to have the choreography hidden inside what looked like a real fight and not let you see the beats. Tom is brilliant to work with; he is versatile, knowledgeable and an all-round good bloke Richard [Norton] and I had so much fun working with him and we all became great friends who will keep in touch. Tom wanted to push Max in what I feel was the right direction, so it made my life easier.

It's not entirely clear yet, but I think I can see the streak of grey hair on his left temple.
