That aerial shot looks like it's just a place for the crew to hang out. I've been on a few big budget movie sets and those tent compounds are typically broken up into a cafeteria section and an office section. That pic looks like it was taken when almost nobody was there because I don't see any trailers. If you look closely you can see the unfinished frame of the tent at the right side. When they're working I bet the rest of the compound is filled with dozens of trailers and looks like Area 51 or something.

i agree that has to be just for the crew

They did build a bitumen road on that property near Broken hill .. so it could be used in a chase sence.
Maybe its been cut out of the script?
