What if the 'piece from here and a piece from there" was about the motor and not the car? There could have been many BoB Pursuit Specials in various states of use and condition much like the yellow cars, standard models and bodies with differing levels of equipment, but what was done to that car is what made it such a big deal to everyone. Remember, all that was discussed in the MFP garage was motor stuff.

Not exactly insulting but it's an old Aussie slang term for a person from the U.K , it came from the convict days as newly arrived convicts had the letters P.O.H.M stencilled on the issue convict uniform , it of course stood for Prisoner of Her Majesty , funny thing was at that stage everyone in the country was an immigrant from the U.K , the peculiar Aussie humor was developingMWFV8 wrote:It's an insulting term for someone who's Britishflightsuit wrote:What does "pom" mean?Artemis Flow wrote:...its worse enough sacrilege that a pom will be playing Max...

This is kind of what I heard from a person involved in the current film , it will be a road movie , one long chase from start to finish , some of the photos posted by Hotrodder ( i.e Ripsaw Charger ) look like they were taken in this building ( Sydney railway workshops )boomerang wrote:Artemis...I'm getting the vibe that, like RW, there will be no "indoor" stuff, and that the whole film will take place on location.
The only interior work in RW is the garage in the compound, and I'm pretty sure that was shot on location.
Valid , I was thinking that after I posted last night , its been turned into a dune buggy lolMad Max RW wrote:I'm thinking there is only one car. Max just modifies it for off-road when he ventures deeper into the wasteland. If the timeline is similar to the original trilogy, the original BoB wouldn't survive later when the world and all the roads and highways are completely destroyed.

the more I see the more interested I get. the silver xb intriegues me I'll be likely adding it to continuing mad mad game mod that's been going on over at the gaming forum. when the movie hits I'll be taking notes likely and not waiting for a dvd release to start working on the vehicles that I feel deserve 3d replication.

The black Monaro being chased by the MFP at the start of Mad Max is another Pursuit Special from a different district. It's no secret that similar cars existed.DetritusMaximus wrote:There could have been many BoB Pursuit Specials in various states of use and condition much like the yellow cars, standard models and bodies with differing levels of equipment,
The main problem is that Max's Pursuit Special is so iconic, even if Millers original universe accounted for multiple versions of the same looking car it would be so jolting to bring that in now thirty years later.
If we look at it in terms of retelling the story we already know there's a few key factors here;
We know in RoadWarrior his Pursuit Special had been modified significantly to suit the conditions.
We know in RoadWarrior he crashes the Pursuit Special.
We know in Thunderdome he's moved to the desert and driving a buggy.
We know in Thunderdome that buggy is stolen from him and instigates that story.
Working on the basis of following what we've seen in the original storys and assuming these films ARE a reboot following those. It seems reasonable to me to assume what we're seeing is his Pursuit Special modified, either by Max himself to adapt to the conditions, rebuilt following the crash or stolen and modified by the antagonists.

I've no doubt that Fury Road is likely to follow the same road movie format as Road Warrior.Artemis Flow wrote: This is kind of what I heard from a person involved in the current film , it will be a road movie , one long chase from start to finish , some of the photos posted by Hotrodder ( i.e Ripsaw Charger ) look like they were taken in this building ( Sydney railway workshops )
But it's reported that they are shooting Fury Road and Furiosa back to back. We have to remember that a lot of mainstream Mad Max fans aren't in it for the cars and chases but more into the Thunderdome stuff. I think a lot of people will want to see that storyline again.

Hello again, just checked in to read up on all that's going on with the new Mad Max movie and I find that someone here feels it's a sacrilege to have the fine actor Tom Hardy or 'a pom' as it was put play Max!!
Well I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark here and guess that Artemis Flow is one of my fellow Aussie countrymen who posted this comment because only an arrogant, ignorant Aussie would post such a derogatory remark on a message board of which I'm sure has many Tom Hardy supporters but more to the point also has members from the UK who I'm sure would be offended by these remarks also.
Would Artemis flow feel the need to insult Mel Gibson or the Americans considering that Mel is in fact an American himself or is it just the need to insult the English. It should probably be pointed out to Artemis flow that several of the main actors used in the previous Mad Max films were also in fact English! is that also sacrilege?
Tom Hardy's list of credits have shown him rise to stardom through outstanding acting performances including his portrayal as Michael Peterson (Bronson) the roll that got him noticed by George Miller. So to insult Hardy by calling him a 'scrawny pom' is not only offensive but also undermines Miller's capability of casting the right man for the job.
I am ashamed that racism and the derogatory views of some aimed at other races is rife here in Australia and getting worse and for someone to use insulting remarks like that on this message board is pretty disgusting.
And just in case I've got it wrong and Artemis Flow is not Australian, then shame on him anyway!

Re: Possible pictures of actual Fury Road vehicles
Just to clarify, I don't think most Australians would regard "Pom" as a "racist" tag, or one that is meant to cause serious offence. It's more a term used in friendly rivalry, and not one that I've ever seen used to cause anyone to be offended. I can understand that not everyone would necessarily see it that way, particularly anyone not living here - there's a lot of Australian slang that falls into the same basket, and it can get a little hard to explain for anyone not immersed in the culture of our language on a day to day basis. There's a lot of terms for a lot of nationalities, some are more friendly than others, but this one I wouldn't say I've ever seen anyone offended by.Militaria01 wrote:I am ashamed that racism and the derogatory views of some aimed at other races is rife here in Australia and getting worse and for someone to use insulting remarks like that on this message board is pretty disgusting.
So while the original remark of "scrawny pom" obviously does mean that some aren't too impressed with the choice, I didn't once read it to mean an outright attack on the guy. Personally, having seen Tom Hardy in Bronson and Inception, I think he's certainly capable of pulling the role off. But I respect the fact that for the moment, not everyone necessarily agrees with the choice, and I guess in the end we will all need to wait and see...

Re: Possible pictures of actual Fury Road vehicles
I am a pom, I am not offended insulted or feel it is a racist remark to be called such. I've even been called a whinging pom. Mind you I have lived in Australia longer than the UK now but it is certainly my roots.
It is no different to calling an Australian an Aussie.
I have a friend who is Lebonese and he often refers to himself and his mates as a wog/s. He laughs at it.
As Peter said, racism is and can be a personal perception but the aussie (oops there I go again) slang and humour is sometimes hard to understand.
Our PC world can be hard to live in but I firmly believe sometimes we just have to take a step back and laugh at ourselves, and others (if we dare)

While I don't think any deep offence was intended the point has already made previously. If you don't like Tom Hardy playing Max then there's no need to bang on about it, go right a poem about your angst or something.

Re: Possible pictures of actual Fury Road vehicles
In the UK, there has just been a TV documentary series called 'Poms in Paradise' following Brits who have settled or not settled in Australia.
Most Brits would not class the term 'Pom' as racist so lets get back to discussing MM Fury Road please?
