MAXXX - i understand that there are more f**ked up places in this world than US. but those places know it, and admit it - you guys just won't though, your always the last tyo point out AMERICA's problems.

And yeah, fair enough your right, i haven't been there, i only have what i read and watch and hear from a number of friends who HAVE been there - but i feel i have enough info to have an opinion.

Oh believe me ,we have our share of problems. Id be the first to admit that ,but im not running the country. I am smart enough to realize the grass isnt always greener on the other side. Every country has their share of stupid laws and ideals.

which brings me to another point - (sorry more US bashing, but you guys can take it) - i've baught this up before, but see if you can name some of the problems in AUSTRALIA?

My point is When a friend of mine was staying in NEWYORK a while ago, they couldn't get any info or news about anything going on outside of the US. (yeah i know why didn't he watch CNN.) but as for AUSTRALIA? he felt so claustraphobic. cause AMERICA is so besotted with AMERICA - noone else matters - Yeah i understand - that , that is the way it should be, why should you care about anyone, but your own kind, but you atleast have to pay attention, and realize your not the only country existing, and think about other countries problems too.

ANKLE a month or two ago started a thread on JOHN F KENNEDY, i made a joke about not knowing anything about him. making a point that ofcourse i know all about him, us AUSTRALIAN's know about every damn President you've ever had, and can probably name them all - but noone could name any AUSSIE ones - cept ol' HOWIE, and that was only cause he'd been hanging with you Prez lately.

Rock I think the main thing I like about the US is the freedom. That in itself has good and bad points to it but on a whole I think it is for the better. Every time I return to Australia I notice it has become a little more of a police state than when I last left. When talking about driving and cars there are so few restrictions in the US compared to Aus. I am not sure if it is all over or just where I have been. No speed cameras, no photo radar, very few radar traps, very little police intervention with driving and car modifications. I go to Aus and I see a pack of sheep that are scared to drive 3km over the speed limit for fear of a photo radar fine for big $$$'s.

It is a hard feeling to verbalize (yeah I spell like a Yank too) but I like being here a lot. The US has its issues but so does every other country. I have the choice of what country I wish to live in and at this point in my life I choose the USA. At some point this may change. My wife on the other hand is from the US and she wants to live in Aus!

To be honest, I'd probably choose Australia to the U.S. I can't stand the mentality of the "soccer mom patriots". THe ones who reckon patriotism stops at putting a flag in your back window and shouting about how jealous of you the rest of the world is. I know that not every single american is like htat, but it seems to be a growing trend and to be honest, I also hate the way these people reacted to 11/9. What did america do when other countries had their women and children killed by terrorists? I don't remember anything about a war on terror, for the good of the world, until it directly affected them.

Like I said, I don't think that every american is like this and I'm sure you know what I mean.

On the other hand, Australia does have spiders as big as my foot and that worries me slightly. I have visions of myself zooming down the road and one of those f**ker wandering across the floor and me crashing as a result. Not only that, but I'd probably sh*t meself too and that'd just be embarassing in the hospital.

Ideally, I guess maybe a hybrid of Australias landscapes, roads and cars, the vechile laws of the US and the social welfare system of say the UK before Blair tried to destroy it.

p.s. just so there is no misunderstanding, in the UK, we write the date dd/mm/yy.

It sounds like the B-Trinity.

"B" stays for...

Brutality?

Or worse...

Belligerant?

If the U.S.A. is so bad, why do all these people keep MOVING HERE????

'Cos it's better than where they WERE.

No, definately not any kind of Utopia, but still far better than many places.

I can at the very least call my President a Monkey without fear fo having a WALL bulldozed on top of me.
