"Well, I can't argue with any of that. I think you're probably right about Immortan Joe. My first thought was that he was a leader of some kind of radiation damaged people but as soon as you said doctor it kind of fell into place and explained a lot of his costume.

Clearly the "good guys" in this film are not going to be the seemingly defenceless individuals of Road Warrior or the bad guys are going to be pretty vile lol, either way furiosas crew looks like they can handle themselves.

Interesting thoughts."

I think that the villain will be the main make-it or break-it element in the film. The reason MMBT doesn't really work is that there is no main villain. Auntie isn't really a threat...Max beats Master-Blaster mid-movie...and Iron Bar, who I assume is supposed to be the Wez like insane baddie. Max beats him in Auntie's tent easily. How can we see this guy as a threat when Max overcomes him so early in the movie? It's a huge flaw in TD...no villains that is.

We may have our first hint of a release date.

VFX company Method Studios lists on their website movies they are working on that are currently in production, and next to each movie is a release date. Among the movies listed is Mad Max: Fury Road, and the date next to it is June 7, 2013.

That date is kind of a head scratcher. It would leave only 5 months for post production. It's also only one week before Warner Bros releases their huge tentpole 'Man of Steel', and I find it difficult to believe they would release those 2 films so close together. Also of note, if that turns out to be the date of it's release, then MMFR will open against the Will Smith sci-fi movie 'After Earth'.

I can believe the 7 June USA release date for MM4.

Yes, Man of Steel opens in the USA on 13 June but it opens 19/20/21 June and later in a lot of the overseas markets, which is where most of the money is nowadays. Same goes for After Earth(directed by M. Knight Shylaman lol!); release dates range from 5 June to 4 July. The release dates for MM4 will have a wide range as well.

Wouldn't it be around 6-7 months for post-production? They're supposed to wrap at the end of the month and with a music composer onboard and an emphasis on more practical effects over CGI the workload doesn't seem that bad so yeah I'd agree that date seems feasible too. Warner is probably expecting to make more bank on Fury Road worldwide anyways given the previous films popularity outside the US and how most films drop 40-50%+ on their second weekend opening here.

I guess that would gel with the Blu-ray boxset release of the trilogy in May too, like release it May 28th and then a week later Fury Road is out. Kind of excited how and hope that release date sticks! Hopefully this also means a trailer will drop before the year's end!

kickherintheguts, I neglected to consider the staggered release schedule between foreign and US domestic, and that WB is probably counting on foreign markets for most of the box office receipts. Even so, it still looks to me like it's being shoehorned into the schedule. This better be R-rated adult stuff to better differentiate itself from and offer counter programming to the popcorn fluff that it will have to compete against. Even that might not be enough, though.

DGSimo, the "2nd quarter 2013" release date for the trilogy by Warners would definitely compliment a June 7 release date for the film, but the fact that they have yet to make this date official might mean it still isn't set in stone yet.

These days, post production starts during the shoot. Since the dailies are digital, they often start cutting stuff as it comes in. Sometimes they even have a rough assembly by the time the shoot finishes. Also, if this film is heavily storyboarded and well choreographed, it makes cutting much easier. 5-7 months isn't that unrealistic.

Warner Bros. are using the same marketing playbook for MM4 that Fox used last year for Prometheus. Reboot a once hot 80's sci-fi/action franchise, Build up buzz, update genre for todays audiences, keep em guessing about the rating(which will be revealed at the last second to be R, etc.

One more thing: MM4 will be released 7 June in the U.S, and similar dates around the world. Exactly one year after Prometheus was released.

I've been thinking more about this...if June 7 really is the date, then this could be an "R" film. Superman comes out one week later, and as someone said earlier, they won't compete with themselves. Superman for all ages, Max for adults. And, yes, a Prometheus strategy would be good. Also, I think FR was a lot cheaper than Prometheus (Which, btw, was my most hated film of 2012. I real though it was terribly written.)

Okay, forget all that June 7, 2013 stuff. I just read something a bit more official....from the CEO of Village Roadshow to precise....and he says it's coming out in 2014. So there you have it.
Upcoming releases in 2013 will include the Baz Luhrman/Leonardo DiCapro’s The Great Gatsby,
which will be released into the prime American summer. Gangster Squad; based on the early
‘audience research’ reports on this film, it is probably one of the best films we have ever
produced.

Our 2014 line-up includes the Tom Cruise All You Need Is Kill, Lego, and Mad Max 4…Fury
Road.
