So why haven't you brought up Islamic extremism then? Immortan Joe took multiple wives. Women don't have ANY rights. Women have to be completely obedient to men. In Islam, if a woman is raped, there has to be male witnesses testify that they witnessed the crime or the woman is charged with adultery and often times executed. In some Muslim country's they cut off a woman's clitorus. Immortan Joe has War boys who are willing to die for him like suicide bombers.

Yet you want to link conservatives to Immortan Joe because they don't approve of abortion. That makes a lot of fucking sense.

It sounds to me like George Miller may have been making a statement about Islamic extremism.
That is the stoopidest thing I've heard on this forum , multiple wives and genital mutilation is not exclusive to Islam , deary me

I proudly wear the SJW epithet because assholes labeled me as such when I fought against things like racism and misogyny and homophobia. Do you think it's wrong to oppose those things?

A common SJW tactic when challenged is to declare their own self-righteousness then redirect with questioning that automatically puts the other person on the defensive from accusations of racism, misogyny, homophobia, etc. You know what we call that in the real world? Dishonesty. It's also predictable. One thing I have never seen from internet SJW's when saying how much they save people is proving how they have done so in real world. Lecturing anonymously on a totally unrelated and uninterested forum does not count, yet the SJW keeps doing it. Social justice? More like trolling.

Now I'm going to offer a way out and to end this before it goes on any further. Let's stop the political shit show, step back and agree Fury Road did something none of us predicted: it got lots of people talking about a wide range of topics long after release. I was certain the movie would come out, be a fun action flick with explosions, and ultimately forgettable. Only the die hards would stick around for the dissection (or autopsy :P) after 20 viewings. Instead we got a masterpiece that can be all things to all people. We're here because we love Mad Max and Fury Road not only because it's a sequel some of us have been waiting 30 years for, but it's really really good. Keep the self righteousness out or follow leadcounsel back to his cave.

I think you meant to say "from a progressive, feminist, Social Justice Warrior's point of view."

Who wouldn't want to be a "Social Justice Warrior"? That sounds badass.

In other news many feminists, myself included, oppose misandry. Why? Because they want equality - so for men to be accepted if they want to be house-husbands or take a fair amount of paternity leave, and for women to have employment equality and control over their own bodies ... these things aren't mutually exclusive. I don't think Miller was commenting on American Conservatism or Islamic Extremism in Fury Road, aside from anything else just about all Judaic-derived organised religions have a long track record of treating women as disposable possessions, so if anything it's aimed across all of the modern world. Both the afore-mentioned groups like to use religion as an excuse to treat other people badly, to force women into poverty to satisfy their need for control.

All of this de-railing doesn't make *many* of the points in the linked article invalid ... as I said earlier, it has factual errors and oversteps reasonable criticism in places, but it also brings up many good points - the Furiosa 1 comic does not match up to the characters in the film, and does not contain convincing portrayals of female personalities. It's lazy, derivative, and more than a little insulting to it's readers - the exact opposite of Fury Road.

Just about everyone to the right of the far left, and not so much.

Don't care about any of that in the context of a P.A. movie franchise. Most fans are seeking entertainment, not personal offense.

The linked source pretty much initiated the "derailing".

It's a comic book, not a social movement.

just getting this out there, i'm as liberal as one can get, and i dont agree at all with social justice warriors or the current trend of tumblr feminists. i can completely recognize that there are feminists in this world that believe in equality of the sexes, these ass hats are not them, and you can sometimes(rarely) find these egalitarian feminists in your conservative right wing groups.

these shitheads arent liberals. they're shitheads.

Yeah, that's a far better written article than I originally posted - nice find :-)

As three words it *sounds* badass. It's like taking the best possible name you could, and then trying to use it as an insult.

Different people look for different things in movies - social commentary is a huge part of most PA fiction, including the previous Mad Max films.

It's a comic book thats linked to a movie that's important in the eyes of a social movement. If it's that unimportant why are you commenting here about it?

Doesn't sound like you're liberal at all, lol. Yes there are some man-hating nutters, just as there are some woman-hating nutters, that doesn't mean that all of the points raised are invalid.
