What about modified Aussie cars here in the US ? I have added rack and pinion and a 5 speed to my Charger.. and shortly will be mini-tubbing it. Once I get some other projects out of the way I have a EFI/Intercooled/Supercharger setup in the works for it...

Can you post pictures of your Charger as you do the work? I would be interested in seeing your work in progress. Here are a couple of links to a bad ass Challenger. It has had several upgrades in the engine department since the Hotrod article. The link from the guy's website has some pictures of the current engine setup. Unless you are talking about something outrageously expensive like an original Hemi 'Cuda, I say modify all you want.

Here are the before and after K frames... got rid of the steering box, idler, pitman, tie rod ends and drag link...replaced with a simple manual rack from a VK Commodore..

Here is a pic from up top... you can see the intermediate shaft I modified to suit, along with it's angles...

On the 5 speed swap.... swap went pretty well, did have to trim the torsion bar crossmember along the very top, and make a new crossmember, but 100% worth the work!

Trans bolted to engine and ready to make crossmember...

Factory trans mount on the bottom...one I made on top..

Here it is..

I even found out that an E body (Cuda/Challenger) non-console pistol grip shifter works perfectly on the T-5 shifter base...All thought think I might go with a billet shifter soon..

I also have a Torana, and soon as I get time to drop in the fresh 308 I built, I will be upgrading it to a 5 speed as well...(hydraulic clutch as well..)

My top ten:

2) Mad Max

2) Running on Empty (I want it on DVD, but not available in the states. I could mod chip my Playstation 2 so I could play the Aus version...)

3) The Roadwarrior

4) Deathrace 2000 (Worth it just for the scene where a car peels out on someone!)

5) The Wraith

6) Vanishing Point

7) Gone in 60 Seconds (The original version)

8) Bullitt

9) The Gumball Rally

10) Stryker

Thanks for the pics OzHemi; I like what you are doing. What are you going to do to the rear suspension? A 4-Link would be pretty cool if you plan on taking it to the track. I've always liked the idea of doing this to the front end and having a one-piec tilt front end with a full roll cage.

In the rear, I am just going to relocate the springs under the frame rails.. should still handle decently that way at least (even though my Torana will still easily out handle it) Going to get rid of the BW stock diff as well and go to a 8.75" US Mopar piece to make swapping around ratios easier... and with the overdrive trans might go from the 3.23 to 3.7 or 3.91 perhaps (Still trying to decide on that...)

Most newer DVD Players will play region-free PAL DVDs; all you need to make a region-free version is a DVD burner and decrypting software (available for free) on your PC. You buy that DVD from Australia, decrypt it to your hard drive, then burn a region-free copy. You already bought the DVD and the copy is for your own use so no one can whine about you breaking any laws.

You can do it without a computer too... I bought a $99 home DVD burner and have it set to region 0, so I can play my Aussie DVD's on a $35 player (region free) and burn the disc into region 0, so it will play anywhere Image

1. Road Warrior 18 years old - present

2. Corvette Summer 13 - 16 yrs (Back when I didn't know any better, though a right hand drive conversion is always cool.)

3. Chitty Chitly Bang Bang 6-8 yrs. Laugh all you want, at that age I didn't know Hot Rods existed.
