If you havent got half a kero drum of nuts and bolts left after doing a rebuild, you arent trying.

Wow, quite the update ! If you get an engine tilter btw, they should come with 4 pieces of chain, makes it simple to attach to the engine that way...4 longer bolts in the corners of the intake is a handy way to go..

Your interior pic looks about how my Torana is at the moment

My floors were perfect, until I had to chop up the tunnel to give clearance for the T-56 trans. The factory console still fits though and the shifter comes through in the proper spot as well even. Still got abit of wiring to do as you can see...

Yeah, the electrical is something I am DEFINITELY NOT looking forward to. Should be pretty simple though, I hope...I don't know jack about electronics.

Sorry your not done pullin the dash out yet! You need to pull it all out intill you get to the firewall so you can see how bad your Cowl to A-pillar sections on the inside left and right sides are rusted out!!!! I had to do this last winter to my Falcon because i discoverd some body filler falling out on the drivers side and cold air coming in. so pulled it all out (dash) and found my cowl was rusted on both sides (very common on all old fords) so i had to clean out all the bad body filler and old clear silicone and patch it all up right. My A- pillars were thankfully solid, just rusted were the firewall meets the kickpanel area up high outa sight. As bad as your a-pillars are and the rest of it, i bet its rusty there too. Here are pics of mine slowly going back together last year. My patch work is bigger than what was bad so it looks crapy in the pic, but cleaned up really well and looked nice when i painted it. The drivers side was done at the time the pic was taken

I like electrical actually... I built a loom for the LS1 out of a factory one and eliminated all the excess stuff, along with adding in wiring for all the power items I've added to the car, etc. Building the headers was probably the only sort of hard part of the project so far for me I'd say...

Like your project, you just take a step at a time and work through all the steps of the car.... from body, to electrical, to cooling, brakes, fuel system, interior stuff, etc, etc.

I agree with Oz Hemi ... an engine tilter is a great investment which will make the process much easier particularly if you are short-handed.

I have found that putting the rear wheels up on ramps gives better access under the car (driveshaft, crossmember etc) plus gives you an advantage with the angle of withdrawl .. so to speak ... especially if you are leaving the engine/trans together which I highly recommend.

As for stopping the trans fluid escaping I have a spare yolk which I giot from a trans repairer for next to nothing which I put in after pulling the driveshaft and secure with a bit of fencing wire ... no leaks, no fuss.

Oh I know I'm not done with the dash just yet. I still gotta yank out all the duct works and wiring and misc stuff. I'm close though. After I pulled the small windows I could see some bondo plugging some additional holes in the panel on the passenger side. Joy. I just love how this process has uncovered so many new headaches.

So what's the deal with pulling the engine and keeping the tranny attached? Why is this the preffered method? Is it just easier because I won't have to drop the trans from underneath? Or is there some other reason?

Thanks - Bart

Yep, Basically it just makes things easier (most of the time on most cars that is) by not having to try and reach the bellhousing bolts next to the firewall and such. Also saves having to support the engine from tilting back while you are under the car pulling the trans.

The other option is to just pull the trans (looks like your car is a borg warner manual?) first, then the bellhousing next, then the engine..just depends on what is easier for you to reach. Since you are going to totally gut the car anyway, it all has to come out of course, so the easy way helps.

OK, I see.

I was just gonna get the car high up on some jack stands and drop the guys with my brother. He's a pretty thick mo-fo so I will have the muscle to do it.

Thanks - Bart
