I'm hip. I've never paid so much for a diecast car as I did for the Biante Falcon. That's the reason it took me a year to decide to do the conversion... and I intend to do it perfectly. I'll easily spend another couple of bills on supplies and parts over the course of the project.
Come to think of it, I did pay more for the DDA Collectibles and Dinkum Classics 1:24 diecast interceptors...
Converting a $25.00 1:18 1971 Mustang Mach 1 would be an excellent low budget option.

Man I remember those cars,They were the hot ticket back in the day. Those that have em nowadays have em running 10's in the q mile.My faves were the Rampage pickup version. oh and a co. called'Welly' makes a dirt cheap 1/18 scale 71-73 Mustang fastback and they offer a plain jain version that would be ideal to mod to Max's car.

I put an intercooler on it, functional hood scoop, a 100 shot of nitrous, manual overboost adjustable to 25 pounds, custom logic module... It could go.
Just got the wheels for the interceptor conversion. A guy was selling them on e-bay loose. The style is nearly exact, and I also got tires from the same guy.
The tires are lower profile, and the rears are bigger than the fronts... and all are fatter than the one shown. Looks perfect on the model. Only found 2 wheels, but I'm recasting them in metal anyway [and painting them black].

I got the master wheel finished. Had to turn down the rim on the lathe, and flatten off the nosecone of a hub. Here's the wheel and tires compared to the ones on the XB model:
And next to the ones off the 1:24 interceptor model:

The blower came in. Horrible casting... very little use other than mock-up, but I have a finished blower on the way [chromed]. Anyhow, here's a taste...

I've heard from more than one guy that Easy Off oven cleaner and a plastic bag works, without attacking the plastic parts. I was thinking I'd start with that. I have some hard core stuff called Bix that removes anything, but I know it attacks plastic. Might be okay for the metal bits. Is brake fluid harsh on plastic?' I've never tried it.
I went ahead and ordered a chromed blower to replace the crappy resin piece I blew $20 on, and I'll mate it to the stock motor. I also bought a [highly detailed] 1:18 scale GMP blown Ford 427 engine... I plan on dropping it in place of the 351. I'll just fab the Scott injector hat and it should look sweet.

Brake fluid isn't harsh on plastic,I buy alot of old models off ebay and brake fluid takes the paint off it pretty good,.I leave the painted parts in a plastic container filled with brake fluid and let it sit over night and hose it off the next day.it may work with the diecast body but then again it was painted in a factory with stronger paint than the rattle can stuff.

Being the Tango Orange XB, you'll have to take everything out of it, including the bonnet scoops, mesh, honeycomb and all lights, then it can either be sand/media blasted or go to the local automotive paint store and get "aircraft paint stripper." The stripper's messy, but it takes it all off the metal body. Another method for removing chrome off of plastic parts is household bleach...it dissolves the chrome, leaving the plastic unharmed. There's also a tire set sold in the States that's for 1:18 60's/70's race cars. It comes with two sets of wheels (including minilights) and has different sized tires for a better look that matches the look of the BoB. I think they're around $20.ooUS. I'll try to get a pic of the box.
Question: Does GMP make a 429/460 engine in 1:18th? I took the really lame 429 out of the old '70 Torino kit, but it's lacking in detail. I have one Tango XB in stock form, then bought another one to make into a replica of my "1:1 scale model car." Looking at the prices of the 1:18 Apollo Blue XB's, I'm glad I didn't tear into it a couple of years ago.
Simply put...the DDA diecast...sucks! I'm glad I only paid $40.ooUS...it's not worth much more. The Dinkum Classics car is a better quality, but not completely "accurate."
