WEZ turns 60 !
Hi Brad.
I actually rang Chris yesterday.
Yep it has been hot ! Around 45 deg as I expected !
It was cooler yesterday, Chris was messing with that "Widow maker" bike getting ready for the salt.
I am sending him over a poster of the "Road Warrior" replica for his wall.
Um .... Big block on the salt "Speed is just a question of money... how fast can you go?"
Yep money is the problem, I dug into this a bit last year, as I understand the rules the big block Interceptor replica would need a roll cage fitted, and a few weeks spent ensuring compliance to all the small things but apart from that it would be almost Ok to run I would think.
The event is quite regulated in terms of what can be run and vehicle compliance is a reasonably strict code.
I also read something that I did not know: Salt in fact is a very slow surface to run on, the rolling resistance of the salt is very high, so the cars top end speed on the salt is actually quite a bit lower than what it would be on a free running road surface. This will explain how the brilliant engineering of the super strong and reliable Gary Myers Mustang engine still only produced about 170 MPH when he ran a few years ago.
Beyond vehicle compliance of course is the problem and cost of getting the Interceptor almost 3500 Km to attend the event. I just need more bloody money darn it !
Cheers

Hey Gordon
As Chris just cant test the bike, i mean its 5.1m long, he picked up a Leyland P76 and has put the motor into that, so guess what has been running around the Mundi Mundi and down the reservior, blower and all. He will be pulling it out soon and putting it back into the bike, at least he knows the engine and auto box will work fine before he gets to the lake. Im thinking of going up and having a look at it, for a couple of days at least, get on a plane Gordon.
Those big tyres are a problem also, too much drag on the salt, but the interceptor just would not look right with 185's all round. From what i have heard, even the likes of Rod Hatfield has pushed the limits of what can be run and what is safe, but in saying that, there are loads of old hot rods running out there, and what engineers reports on safety mounts and chassis strenghing have been done on those, none im sure.
That Road Warrior pic will look great next to your other photo that he has hanging there, was that the LA car?
And Bozz, we are glad to have you mate, welcome to SA, it wont be long till that Z900 get here mate, then we are off for a ride through the hills.
Brad
