I don't remember the lines word for word in Mad Max. I could pretty well recite Road Warrior though.

LOL...I think that WAS the next line Fifi says..."You gotta admit, I sounded pretty good there. Aww, come on. Do you want me to beg?" Ah Fif... "I'll tell you how it is..."

Scary thing is, I can visualize the scene in my head, and recall both audio versions. What was the tune playing in the background with the tweety bird...Aussie Anthem or other national song?

Now tell me of aother film that made that kind of impact on someone...? Well, perhaps Star Wars.

"That's not a moon, that's a Space station."

and

"Aren't you a little short for a Stormtrooper?"

Or am I encouraging the real Geeks to comment here? (hey BBB about time you found and posted some more of those funny convention Star Wars pix ain't it? Y'know the ones of overweight Stormtoopers carrying NIKE bags and such. Just to remind us we're really not like them Image )

Hey Bronze, I know what you mean about picturing the scene in your head as you quote those lines. The other day, while doing some work at home, I dug out the audio cassette I made of MM2 back in '86. I'd set a tape recorder in front of the TV and just recorded the dialogue. So on went the C90 tape and I just spent the whole time playing the movie out in my head while replacing the kitchen sink waste pipes. It's surprising just how long some of those scenes actually took and how little Mel actually said in the way of lines in the film.

End of the day I had a great time listening to it, my Girlfriend thought it very 'anorak' of me and the sink waste pipe now leaks. Image LOL!

"He had big shoes, and they were brown, and he took long steps"...something like that. I read that it was the longest continual scene in the movie...somewhere around the two minute mark.

BIKER: I did the same thing, but only used the computer to make a huge sound .wav file...gonna make a clip song later. I did it to all three movies and will do the same when working on renderings and the like.

As a junior high schooler, I watched Back to the Future countless times. Almost wore out the video store VHS copy (back during the VHS/Beta Wars).

ANORAK???!!! A heavy, hooded jacket or parka???? I'm "corn-fused."

TOM: Trains? My favorite has always been the UP 4-8-8-4 Big Boys that used to run mountain passes out in the west. Monsters they were...185+ feet long. I also grew up around the F-8 A-B combo DE's when my dad worked as a dockhand for ATSF in Kansas. Now the DE's are putting out as much horse as a top-fuel dragster...enough tractive effort to pull a mile-long train at 45mph...impressive numbers.

Hey Bronze21... this is going to really get me hammered in light of the rest of your posting above regarding trains but here goes anyway....

Anorak.... Well it's the sort of derogatory term used in England for someone who's just a little too "into" a particular hobby. They'd get very obsessive (often violent) about accuracy and details and would be without a girlfriend, let alone a wife! Their Mother wouldn't approve of another female having any influence over her darling son! Image

The origin of "Anorak" is based upon... ummm Image and don't take this personally eh Bronze21..... Train enthusiasts, in particular Train Spotters. Grown men in their 40's who'd stand beside railways tracks clutching a dog-earred notepad, a tarten thermos flask of tomato soup by their feet. Wrapped up in a scarf their mum knitted for them when they were 14 and wearing a bobble hat (don't ask) white socks with trouser cuffs slightly too short and finally the anorak. A zip-up lightweight nylon jacket, usually navy blue with a red stripe somewhere on it and drawstrings. It also has a hood, sometimes detachable, which was so small it didn't quite cover your ears when put up.

These said 'men' would wait for hours, even in the rain, for that one particular illusive "Golden" train. When it arrived they'd go into throes of almost orgasmic pleasure after finally 'getting' it. They'd jot the train's number down onto their notepad and do the strange "I got it!" dance (like the way your Dad dances at wedding receptions but much, much worse). Then patiently wait another 3 hours in case another train came along such as the legendary 4.28pm from Clapham South, whose number they hadn't got yet, then walk home (they don't drive, Mother wouldn't approve) to their single bedsit room, or worse, the house they still share with their aged Mother. Where thier room would still have plastic model aircraft of Spitfires hangin from the ceiling in a dog fight with ME109s and posters of Slade and Charlie George of Arsenal on the wall.

This same derogatory term anorak could be applied to any other hardcore hobbyist such as fishermen (rod and reel type), birdwatchers or stamp collectors (though stamp collectors are rarely found outdoors, but if seen, are easily recognised by their pale complexion and thick glasses, however they still fall under the umbrella term of "Anorak") but the fabled Trainspotter got in there first. Sadly they're a dying breed now since anoraks with red stripes are no longer beng made.

Betcha wished you hadn't asked now huh? Image again no offense intended to you personally Bronze21-MFP460

Anyone else from the UK want to elaborate further?....and kick a man while he's already down? Image

PS No offense intended to any fisherman, stamp collectors or bobble hat wearing birdwatchers.

PPS How did this thread ever end up here?
