What does Mad Max mean to you?

Post by catz »

Having Black on Black and the yellow cars parked out the front of my house - and driving around the streets of Melbourne in Black on Black with Byron hiding from the staring crowds...

Having Black on Black put off the road by the local police because the back tyres were too wide, dismantling a country cinema to get Black on Black into the foyer...

Local police walking into country pubs, carrying the 'prop eye popping head' and asking if anyone knew who owned it...

Not being allowed into the cinemas to watch the film because I was too young...

Definately C, The Road Warrior changed my life prolly more than any other movie.

Im not sure how it affected me, but it has. My daily driver is primered black, raked and i have a shotgun in the trunk (mostly for looks but the apocalypse just might happen and id need it). To me Max was as free as any bad ass biker, the old west gunfighter, he was freedom. He was the anti-hero that everyone loves and would do anything to be like.

Or have i just been drinking to much tonight?

Excellant thread!

Ok for me it's a kaleidoscope of images mostly of the Falcon though. I got the 3 DVDs for Christmas and my GF and I watched them over the next few days I envied her that she was seeing something that has been an influence in my life for so long. She thought MM was terrible (her words not mine) I suppose because of the rawness of it.

MM2 got a higher critique since it had a better story line. BTD she didn't like that much and thought it silly.

I've read the thread above and can relate to so many of the postings I was 18 when I first saw MM at the cinema with my late Father we rode home on my tiny moped dreaming I was Toecutter. That's a moment I still treasure seeing the film with my Dad he dies 3 years later.

Damn what fine films they are.

Something I read earlier though puzzles me, I've only ever seen BTD in book form are the other ones still available?

Probably only in Second hand Bookshops, and ebay, mate. I know of the NOVEL, and STORY BOOK, which is kind of a kids book, you know, like those books where you get a tape, and listen to it as you read along, cept this one don't come with a tape. I was lucky enough to get both Novel, and Story book, when they first came out in 85'.

I believe two versions of the STORY BOOK exist though - i remember talking to UNCLE ENTITY once, and he described his THUNDERDOME Story Book (ITALIAN VERSION) and it had different pictures, and text in it, than my Standard ENGLISH one.

As a chick, I think of good guys wearing leather pants, fast cars, and of course, the Goose.

Back when I was first becoming a mechanic, I used to watch this movie with my guys and we'd daydream about butchering one of our rolling project cars into something more "road worthy".

Ah well. A nice dream.
