Here's an idea: When society started to crumble, due to australia being a huge place, some of the outlying MFP outposts and speed traps and the such would be less able to recieve frequent/ reliable support from the main HQ. These "abandoned" bases would be easier to ransack and logically, it would make sense to steal from the police in a time of crisis, as they have powerful cars designed/ modified for performance and would be in fairly good nick. The police also have nice big guns and the best leathers. I suspect that in the type of madmax world, that MFP would have become a sort of military-esque dictator force in the last civilized city to fall.
of course, they could have just fallen down a plot hole.....

Exactly, and it is logical. The criminals that killed the police off wouldn't just leave their gear there for someone else to get. All things would be precious, especially clothes/gear, vehicles, and weapons. Hell in Mad Max 1, Max catches one bad guy while he is trying to steal a dead man's boots. Scavenger mentality.

Both you THUNDERDOME freaks, got good points, in particular you ANKLE. But i just think we gotta try stop thinking all these movies are connected by other characters.
MAX is the only character to appear in all three, certain scenario's, can re appear, like people (NIGHTRIDER MM1, MAX MM2) slambing on the brakes, to avoid trouble. and guys hanging onto the fronts of trucks, but not characters.
Lets get your theory straight. The marauders in MM2 who wear MFP clothing aren't actually wearing MFP gear? Then what agency is it? Some characters did continue into the mext movie. Can you guess which one?
How do I qualify as a THUNDERDOME freak? Damn, you say the nicest things.

the MAIN FORCE PATROL didn't wair button up jackets, they wore zip up, also they didn't have big fukkin cricket shinpads either. and like MAX they'd all be carrying shotty's, or atleast have it as a sidearm.
But then someone will have to raise the 'no ammo' topic again.
EICHENLAUB - i like it, your right, even the cops would turn scavenger.

I always thought they were ex-cops who had gone off the rails like everyone else, but were better placed to survive than most having police training, equipment and cars. After all, Max is exactly the same, a scavenging ex-cop, an anti-hero who is only helpful to Pappagallo's lot because he can get petrol out of it. For all we know, The Humungus could have been an ex Detective Chief Inspector!
It would be silly to think that Max was the only survivor of the MFP. And Roop would have survived for ages living on all the doughnuts he'd stored up...!
Mind you, isn't there some rumour about a missing scene where Toecutter et al wipe out the MFP in MM1? Food for thought...

Don't think TOECUTTER's gang wipes 'em all out, they just go in stir up sh*t, cause havok, and kill a few of them, i bet it includes the death of ROOP and CHARLIE though.
