As for why Fury Road has sparked a lot of feminist dialogue> Imagine if almost every action movie you saw was like Highlander 2, or XMen Origins: Wolverine, or something like that. A flat, cookie-cutter pile of crap with actors just going through the motions of over-the-top explosions and shitty writing ... and then along came The Bourne Identity, or Raiders of the Lost Ark, or something of that calibre, where the lead appears to be a believable as a human being for the first time in maybe the last 20 years. Thats what Fury Road is like for women, or at least it was for me.

In that case I blame the viewer's own ignorance when we've had characters such as Ellen Ripley (Aliens) and Sarah Connor (Terminator) decades before Furiosa and scores of others since then (recently Emily Blunt from Edge of Tomorrow). People are latching onto a non-issue like Fury Road because it's the latest thing you are being told to do. Good movies with believable male and female characters have always existed. Stop hiding inside a bubble and find them. It's not hard.

I cannot still understand the over exaggerated Feminism "debate" surrounding this movie. It's a post-apocalyptic fresco adventure featuring some women as leads, but I just cannot understand what's the big deal. Must be a political reason.

I'm almost sure it started in America........ even. The whole Feminism "debate" surrounding Fury Road. Facepalm.

Fury Road makes a brilliant feminist statement, and there is nothing to debate about that assertion. It just is.

I get the impression you don't live in North America, so please allow me to lend some insight as to how a citizen of the United States might perceive this film. I live in a country where conservative politicians have in recent years defined their party by trying to redefine rape so fewer acts of rape will be regarded as such.

Why? Because those same politicians view women as broodmares, and have literally stated that a pregnancy resulting from rape is gift from God. These are men who are working hard to outlaw abortion, but they know there will be massive social pressure on them to allow abortion in cases of rape or incest.

So the solution is to make the definition of rape so narrow that hardly any rape victim will ever have any hope of qualifying for an abortion

These same politicians are allies to members of very extreme versions of Christianity who force their daughters to make purity pledges, and even take their daughters to daddy-daughter purity balls where they celebrate and enforce these coerced promises that they will remain virgins until marriage.

So when we see the Five Wives using bolt cutters to remove their chastity belts, and heroically fighting to escape sexual and reproductive slavery, Fury Road seems very much to be a statement by George Miller about the puritan fascist anti-woman agenda that is so central to conservative politics in America right now.

Nope. I love Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor, but putting a lone strong woman in an action film does not make it a powerful feminist statement in this day and age. Countless franchises have imitated the success of Aliens and Terminator by putting strong women in action films. A strong woman by herself in an action film is not a powerful statement any more; it's a cliche.

You will come to your own conclusions about Fury Roads meaning, but I haven't met anyone that thinks this was a movie about conservative American politics. I don't believe that's what Miller was thinking about. I don't believe Miller thinks conservative right wingers approve of sex slavery. Im not even sure how you are linking conservatives to Immortan Joe at all. If anything Joe sounds more like Kim Jong Un.

You're trying to make this movie about something it's not. I guess that's natural for some people but for me it was a cool action movie with cool vehicles and characters. That's it.
