I don't mean to be snarky, but does it fucking matter where it fits?
Genre fandom has gotten so tightly wound these days that it needs to have everything neat and clean with no wiggle room. I just don't understand the need for it to all "make sense." It's fiction. It's malleable. It's fluid. Relax.
The James Bond comparison above is the best. This is just another Max adventure...that's it. That's all I need.
My Fury Road Timeline
Re: My Fury Road Timeline
From what I gathered, Fury Road is some 20 years after the collapse. It doesn't fit in with the other films at all.
Having seen it in prescreening, I do not like the whole reboot, change in character, or the pointlessly purposefully reintroduction and destruction of the car, change in his background, etc. It was needless, distracting, and distasteful to distance Max from the real Max we all grew up with... I simply didn't like it at all.

This is my point.......if I need to tie it into the old films in some way to better enjoy it , then that's what i'll do....What the Mad Max illuminate thinks about it doesn't really weigh that heavy on my mind . Its funny people are pretty quick to tell you on here your interpretation is completely wrong , that their way of seeing it is closer to the "Creators Vision "but I feel that is really missing the point to good cinema .IMO a great movie not only leaves room for your imagination....but actively encourages you to use it .I think the ambiguous connection / disconnection to the original franchise is a really clever marketing ploy that is working to the extreme...I mean how many threads on this forum ( or the whole internet for that matter ) would have never happened if this was a clear cut sequel or remake .Most of the meaningful discussion ( over the past couple of years anyway ) has been about exactly that .As to being told to relax.....Man I'm not tense. In fact I feel my attitude to continuity issues is way more relaxed than saying "there's too many changes for this to fit with the old films and anyone that tries is plain wrong " . Anyone that can't see a contrived effort to tie this to the old films are only looking at the differences , and ignoring the familiarities of which there a way more .I have had the meaning of reboot , sequel , reimagining explained to me at length so please not again.....I know already ! I just don't care

Re: My Fury Road Timeline
And I think it's a really dumb idea. Why purposefully divorce Max from the epic previous films??? Makes zero sense. I predict that die hard MM fans will be overall disappointed, and the newer Fast and Furious crowd will enjoy the mindless action. MM1-MM2-MM3 were more emotive and thinking movies. MM4 was a big letdown IMO.I think the ambiguous connection / disconnection to the original franchise is a really clever marketing ploy that is working to the extreme...I mean how many threads on this forum ( or the whole internet for that matter ) would have never happened if this was a clear cut sequel or remake .Most of the meaningful discussion ( over the past couple of years anyway ) has been about exactly that
Creating threads doesn't make money, especially if even say 30% of the people didn't like it - such as myself - and won't pay to see it again. The goal is to drive people to the theater.
If it were as good as MM1 or MM2, I would see it 10 times. I would have sung the praises and encouraged people to go. Since it's not, I saw it once for free and won't bother going to see it again. I might buy the video when it's in the bargain bin. (I still don't own Beyond Thurderdome).

The Original Trilogy Max's story is finished. The ending of Thunderdome is perfect.BoB wrote:

So I'm fine with the alternate universe/reimagining.
