Dr. Dealgood in Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome: He's bad. He's beautiful. He's crazy. He's . . . The Man with No Name.

Max's name is not spoken until the end of the movie in Mad Max: Fury Road, a possible reference to the above line.

Sorry, mate. First line spoken in the film:
Max Rockatansky: [Narrating] My name is Max. My world is...
"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

Nightwalker,

Oops. You are correct. Thanks, mate. Easy to forget Max's intro when the action starts.

The characters (ignoring the girl in the flashbacks) do not learn of Max's name until the end of the movie, however.

I think owenmp point still stands, the opening narration doesn't count.
His name isn't said out load to another character until the end of the film.

Great thread, amazed at all the nods to the past Dr Miller has included in this new telling, a very proud father indeed.
The Give Way sign was my fav for sure. To have the pellet holes as well was mind blowing.

When Max meets the wives for the first time, you know, the shower scene, the score in the background had a very MM2 feel about it. Its only a couple of bars really but I immediately got a Brian May vibe from it, anyone else?

As for Fury Road, I think it is an incredible achievement and makes me very proud of the Australian film community.

When Max eventually tells Furiosa his name he does these facial twitch/expressions like Gibson does - 100% intentional nod IMO.

A nod to Star Wars
When the war rig breaks down during the end of the film, the sound it makes is the same sound as the Millennium Falcon during its break down in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

Just registered today to join this thread with my own thoughts.
Saw The Road Warrior in the theater in '81 when I was eleven and Thunderdome in '85, so I'm a giddy mess to have beheld Fury Road its opening weekend.

First,
decosabute wrote:This may have been mentioned already, though I didn't see it in my quick scan of the thread, but People Eater's 'Polecats' reminded a lot of toecutter's gang pole vaulting onto the tanker to steal gasoline in MM1.
Lonewolf wrote:Probably mentioned but I'll mention it. When Imorton Joe looks in his treasure room for his brides, he is confronted by an old woman pointing a double barrel shotgun at him and subsequently misses her shot. Much like May did with the Toecutter in Mad Max 1 when she helps Jesse to escape and finally misses her shot when she tries to stop the Toecutter and his gang from getting Jesse.
Peter Barton wrote:When toast is scoping out the bullets on one of the mothers, she slaps her hand away - don't touch! - The Feral Kid / Gyro Captain in Mad Max 2.
Bad cop wrote:Just re-watched "Mad Max" last night and noticed that the same sign that Roop shoots during the opening chase is the same as the one being used as a shield by one of the boarding marauders during the final chase in 'Fury Road.'
These are excellent! I hadn't noticed them in my two viewings in the theater and several times with online showings.

~

My meager offerings:

 The night scene when the tribes slow down and the People Eater takes inventory reminded me of MM2 scene with the mechanic and assistant relaying the damage of recently acquired rig to Papagallo.

 So many instances in Fury Road echoed that grim n' painful look between Papagallo and Max during the final chase scene in MM2.

 The cloth which Max draws the map looks a lot like the fabric fragment containing shotgun shells Max is handed in MM2.

 The war rig towing itself out of the mud with the cable wrapped around the 'thing-tree' was strongly reminiscent of Wages of Fear with the truck towing itself out of the oil pond.

~

And for what it's worth some other thoughts I had:
 Immortan Joe's mask jaw shouldn't open or close, yet we see it clearly opened in an anguish scream as he holds his pregnant wife and his son fires the machine gun. It's touches like that that shouldn't make sense, but are enabled purely for the strange effectiveness they offer.
 I loved the 'sped up' action in Fury Road.

Two points of clarification need:
:?: In the third act, when Max sees the women ride off into the vast salt frontier, the girl ghost confronts him and briefly becomes the black mask character Max will eventually encounter on the war rig. He puts up his hand to block her/his attack and this is what ultimately saves him from taking a crossbow bolt directly to his brain. Is Max psychic or will ghost-girl accompany in future adventures, pooping up at opportune times?
:?: Before entering the sandstorm, Immortan Joe is tapping his vehicle's compass. I wasn't sure why this is shown. The storm is magnetic and wreaks havoc on such devices ?

What a lovely forum.
Looks like a great fan resource.
Thanks for having me.

Something I just found, but not sure if it was in the movie or just a trailer. In one of the trailers Max says 'everybody has gone out of their mind..."You're not the only one, Max". Almost the same thing Pappagallo said to him before Max punched him.
