DIECAST DISTRIBUTORS ANNOUNCEMENT.

Post by Gordon Hayes »

I am told that the quality of the model shall surpass that of Auto Art/ Bianti, so I hope that is true! Because Auto Art / Bianti do fine models.

The Big Block 1/18th will be about $200 AUD and the "Last of the V8 interceptors" in its twin fuel tank equipped desert travelling presentation will be between $220 AUD and $250 AUD I think, But the detail should be very good.. I actually told the guy to get the model correct first and worry about the price later. IF everything is highly detailed and correct the price being an extra few dollars will not kill it, but if it is a bit of an "Edsel" it will not sell well at any price.

I have already pushed for and achieved an opening hood, originally the hood was to stay closed in order to keep costs down, so I perhaps pushed the retail price to and beyond $200 AUD just by getting an opening hood and detailed engine, the other big issue was weather the model should feature a "hooked" up supercharger or the actual film correct "False" supercharger

What do you think !!! Let me know... What is the opinion of this board ??

Should the Supercharger be ...

Looking operational and all "hooked up"

Or film correct on a bracket "False" ?

I am leaning toward the film correct mounted on a bracket "false" supercharger because that is how it was/is.

Cheers

i would go with a real looking working blower...the film car had a fake set up,but on film the effect was to make it look real....and i really hope they are doing a red clay splattered, weathered dirty looking paint job on the road warrrior twin tank interceptor...

I would tend to agree with T.S.

This is a model of the car IN the film, rather than FROM the film.

In the film, it was real and working.

In the end though, I don't think it will matter all that much. The folks who will buy one are long time fans, and they know what's what. If it looks RIGHT, it probably won't matter.

We have been waiting so long at this point, that we will snatch them up either way.

Just try to ensure that it is consistant and good, wheather it be a model of the car IN the film or FROM it, and we will probably buy it.

Gordon,

I would think that it should be really blown because that is what it was "suppose" to be in the film. However, I wouldn't look right above the hood line and it if they made it look "movie correct" above the hood, it would line up underneath. ie: the snout wouldn't come out and over the dizzy and water pump. I'll take out either way.

Hi Answers in order..

TS.. I have indicated that perhaps the 2 car it should be available in clean and dirty formats, I want a weathered one, because in building the two car it never felt right when it was clean, I drove it a heap on the dirt as we were filming it .. and it just looks right when dirty.. the dirt has really become part of its color and presentation ... part of its artwork.

The 1 car naturally just in clean.

Bart... Got to stress that I really have no idea how the costs will pan out, (not what I do) but I certainly said get it right at what ever cost, the guess at a potential $250 was only MY GUESS at a dirty weather 2 car and it was in Australian dollars remember.

Mark.

Yea true.. the same problem as in real life will apply in the 1/18, looking correct above the hood is the priority, and as you correctly point out the belts and pulleys do not line up in real life. Just a problem to think around, no different to building one as you would no, endless problems to think around.

Cheers

Gordon,

best news I've heard in a long time- well done!!

Personally, I reckon the blower should be hooked up and the MMII version should be weathered because at no point in the film was the car actually seen all sparkly clean. I'm sure with today's technologies they can replicate the patterns of dirt / mud spatter from stills from the DVD.
