Plissken rocks. Just love the "no-sh*t attitude" but I do think that both films were as great as each other, even if the story line was the same, break into prison, rescue something, come back, or something happens to you involving death.

Snake and Max - they'd be mates.

In an earlier post, someone mentioned that the appeal of Max is his role as the reluctant hero; someone who would prefer to be left alone, but his moral character urges him to help. Snake is similar.

Most all anti heroes are pensive, reclusive and anti-social. All seemed to be damaged in some way, but goodness seems to prevail from their character.

I Still think we need a remake of Damnation Alley..
('Cept following the book more closely and without the Mutant animals..)
Hell Tanner is another one of those reluctant hero guys.

Damnation Alley? Hell Tanner? Sounds intriging. What's it all about?

The movie was soooo crappy. I loved the book though. In the book, Hell Tanner was such an asshole! In the movie, he deviated far from his book's character. Hell Tanner a high ranking military figure? Bleh! That is so not Hell Tanner. Hell Tanner was a goddamned biker in the book, a Hell's Angel. I liked Roger Zelezny's Hell Tanner over that of some B-movie director's Hell Tanner any day of the week.
Although, that is one damn bitchin apocalypse van.

Yeah DAMNATION ALLY didn't do much for me, maybe if i saw it as a kid, before i got all jaded and cynical, it woulda worked.
But ESCAPE FROM NEWYORK, is awesome, L.A. had its moments, but it basically sucked, wasn't even Carpenters fault, i got a bunch of FANGORIA's, like number 156 through to 159 or something that documented the making of the movie, and Carpenter was basically pushed into making it and rushed, cause the studio leaned on him.
