Lot's of people used to ask me the same question when I had the HQ and the Cobra at the same time.

It never really occured to me as I guess I just like cars in general. Mind you I didn't go out looking for the HQ but just happened on it when it was for sale. I've had Chargers and Pacers as well ... no accounting for taste really!

Having said all of that I have drifted toward being a Ford guy of late and ... short of a 350 HQ Monaro Coupe ... probably will stick with the Blue Oval.

Hey, XA, there was also a 4 DOOR MONARO released, we got one living two houses down - don't look half as cool as the COUPE though.

I do not claim to be a specialist, but in 74 Holden ceased the manufacturing of the two door Monaro, no? But there was a small series of the two door in 74 which was in fact 72's stock remainders with a different interior. In fact, the 4 door became the substitute of the 2 door for unknown reasons. Perhaps Holden wanted to withdraw itself from the sports cars at that time.

MFP 01 Rock's in ... if I recall ... Tasmania. I'm the Norther Beaches ... at Newport.

BUBBA The HJ Holden range featured a two door Monaro but by that time interest had dwindled to a trickle of sales. The last two door Monaro ... the HX LE Coupe ... was released in September 1976. It was a sad and bloated swansong. Essentially a two door Statesman Caprice it was fully loaded with air and power everything. They sold (it was a 'limited' run of 600) very slowly and I remember seeing one still at a dealer, Tony Packard up the Windsor Road, as late as early 1978 when I was working on their audit.

The 4 door soldiered on for a while in HZ livery but lost the Monaro badging ... it was sold as a Holden GTS. his was the only Monaro that featured Radial Tuned Suspension and was ironically probably the best handling of the breed. There was no WB Monaro although I've got a photo of a mock up and, frankly, it was a merciful blessing that it was never let out of the design studio.

Thanks XAMan for these interesting informations about the last 2 door Monaro. I was always certain that the production ended in 74 ...
