Toecutter's Gang at the Farm
About these italian names ... I always asked myself this question: Were there problems with some italian immigrants in OZ in the 70'?
I could probably make it on my own, but I like you kids.

Does anyone else think that Toecutter has an English accent? If so, I can do a really good impersonation of him.

I think he might have been an ex pat Brit who moved over to Oz for a better life, or due to work commitments like Pappagallo (Another Italian?)...

Toecutter's Gang at the Farm
Toecutter's accent is definitely upper class Irish (yes, there is such a thing) and with a name like Hugh Keays-Byrne he sounds like an irish aristocrat. It is particularly obvious in a couple of places; at the station ('what a wonderful way you have...') and at May's farm ('Jessie, Jessie...').
I might look up 'Keays-Byrne' in Burke's History of Irish Families if I can find the copy in the local library.

Never doubted it!

You can hear Toecutter's Irish accent at the station. He sounds very Scottish when he does the 'Jesse...Jesse' line, however. Must be an impersonation...

Jessie, Jessie- you`ve no' got a sense of humour- but I've got a Scottish accent! Gang gets smaller or bigger depending on whether the hangers are along too, but they don`t count. Have a look at the bikes when Toecutter`s gang rides into town, just about everything apart from my granny`s Honda 50 turns up at some time or other. Hugh Keays-Byrne, name sounds like a bit of Irish there?
Maybe he is NED KELLY reincarnated! New thread?

Toecutter/HKB as Ned Kelly? What a wonderful thought process you have!

Toecutter's Gang at the Farm
You gotta see the COMMENTARY on the REGION 1 MAD MAX, or read the EMPIRE mag that was a huge MAD MAX SPECIAL celebrating the REGION 4 release of the movie.
they both go into great detail, some of it from HUGH's own mouth, about how he just improvised constantly, he was so brilliant, he just did every scene with a different accent, just cause he could. MILLER loved it, he almost encouraged it i think.

Hugh and his fellow actors who comprised the gang actually rode the bikes daily, housed together during filming, and constantly were in "character". They even taunted the guys playing as MFP officers. I thought he sounded very Scotish. Looked like he belonged in William Wallace's troop.
