Miller seems to have a pretty good eye for things like cool cars,
and a good ear for snazzy aussie lingo like "razor cola" or "bullet farmer".
And a bunch of neat ideas, but I didn't really care for what he did with the rest of the narrative or character development or dialogue.
Kind of like a later Lucas, he took some good ideas and then ran it off the rails in unfortunate ways.

I wouldn't mind somebody else taking a crack at the franchise.
But warner would mess it up even worse if they called the shots.
They'd give it to jj abrams.

If there was just some way to keep Miller around as a CREATIVE consultant,
while letting somebody who wont bring in the vergina monologues to lecture people about a road warrior movie guide the rest of it,
maybe we can get back on the tracks.

But between it being an oscar winning feminist franchise like Alien in warners eyes now,
and Millers own seemingly firm ideological beliefs in his hippie old age,
thats so far fetched its next door to impossible.

I'm going to have to correct you on this. The whole 'feminist' angle in Fury Road was manufactured by the current socio-political climate. People are still attaching those themes to movies, just recently Blade Runner 2049... there was an attempt to politicize it and turn it into a social issue because apparently women aren't treated well in that movie, but I doubt you heard about that because blowing things out of proportion like that is slowly becoming unfashionable. I guess people just got tired of listening to every offended activist trying to use a piece of entertainment for their own political agenda.

Miller never intended for Fury Road to be any kind of a feminist statement, it's just that people fixated on that part of the movie. Many times Miller explained that the War Boys are just as much victims of Immortan Joe, or Max, or anyone who is involved in that story. Bringing in Eve Ensler was again blown out of proportion - I've heard Miller explain that she was brought in only because she was in South Africa for a brief moment when they were shooting and the actresses playing The Wives needed some sort of a mentor to understand their roles better. They didn't have anyone like that up until that point whereas the War Boys had military experts training them, Hugh Keys-Byrne prepping them as well, in fact all of the groups had some sort of an expert helping them out for the role except The Wives, so they brought Ensler in while she was in Africa for a week or two. But of course.... THAT became the focus and it fueled the narrative that Miller actively tried to make a feminist Mad Max movie.

I think that Miller's only 'hippie' quality about this was that he didn't straight up correct every interviewer that Eve Ensler wasn't that important because all of the factions had their 'mentors' but sort of rolled with it, just saying that everyone in Fury Road is exploited. Which was then completely ignored by everyone. I doubt to this day that people really care about the War Boys who are indoctrinated cannon fodder. Or Max who became an unwilling donor. Or all of The Wretched who at best become treadmill rats.

Interesting.

I mostly kind of surmised myself that Miller is a bleeding heart type from the 70's from a few leaning statements he's made.
And when I look at MM2 now, it never occurred to me at the time becasue its not over the top but the compound is pretty much the hippies.

In the same good and bad ways that progressives are.
The men and the women share equalities like the warrior woman,
and big Rebecca would only be tolerable around hippie types.
Which isn't uncommon, everybody was in the 70's.

As far as Fury Road, I wouldn't disagree with you, you would know.
But it seems hard to imagine that the feminism could be so infused into every frame of it like that,
from the ham handed dialogue, to every man being a weakling or stupid,
to the cheaty editing to make it look like able bodied warrior bad guy's are getting their axxes kicked by old ladies,
that Miller had no personal or particular interest is such a cultural agenda.
I mean it just oozes it all over.

It just seems like it would take enthusiasm to do that for it to be done so enthusiastically.

But maybe he was just mostly enthusiastic about giving his hollywood financiers what they wanted.
And if that was his goal, how can anybody say that he didn't deliver.
