The cash for clunkers program did not effect classic cars at all there was a cut off someware in 1980's models. So it was just mostly the 90s junk that got recycled. I had a hand in blowing up those junks car since i work at a Toyota dealership it was fun! LOL We blew up just as much Jap stuff as domestic stuff too.

Not exactly. it's sales figures are dismal, and the large car segment is getting smaller every year and there's little restrictions on other manufacturers bringing their cars here for sale. (currently 2.5%)
One Ford program dictates that regional specific models should be dropped in favour of global platforms.
i don't think Focus sales are high enough yet to justify dropping falcon at this point, but they are tight lipped about the future. My guess is it'll be built on a FORD North American platform after 2016. (assuming they don't kill it outright)

Same, i love aussie muscle since comming to australia in 1989 and discovering the cars in Mad max,not to mention my farther had a car yard full of valiant chargers,xa xb xc sedans utes and wagons, holden vc and a small amount of jap cars, before then i was only interested in yank 60's 70's fins & chrome & muscle, these days its rare to see coupes on the road,i use mine weekends and stick to the guide lines of club rego, never had any trouble with the boys in blue, been pulled over twice in 8 years for RBT, they never asked for proof of club membership etc and my coupe is currently showing club plates & just wanted to have a better look at my coupe,They seemed to have some respect for the heritage :!: not to mention anydriver can be a hoon in any vehicle and as long as you are being sensible they dont look for problems. The Boss 335 FPV GT is an awesome car :!: so are the falcon BA MK2 XR8 boss 260 and XR6 turbo both capable of doing 0 to licence shredder,I recently attended the mopar nationals at willowbank raceway on display was wing cars one being hemi with a pistol grip manual trannie, also some modern challenger and cuda cars which i give the thumbs up,as for the 4 door charger :(
The chain in those handcuffs is high-tensile steel, it'll take you ten minutes to hack through it with this, now if your lucky ? you can hack through your ankle in five minutes. Go !

I still can't get over all the restrictions ya'll have. Tire width, hood scoops, club registrations(??), stuff like that. And correct me if I'm wrong, but what is street-legal in one state may not be street-legal in another? I don't know if I could handle some cop or bureaucrat telling me what I can or can't run on my vehicle.

Most state rules are almost the same in all respects as they are trying to have one set of rules nationally.
(I cant imagine in the USA that all state rules are the same)

Club rego isnt mandatory... in fact its a good thing.
You can register your old car on full rego without restrictions or join a club pay minimal registration (eg in QLD full rego for a V8 in about $1050 yr... on club rego its about $120 per yr).
The "restrictions" on club registered cars are in QLD:
You can drive within a 5km radius of your home for test drives.
You can drive to and from a mechanic, panel shop etc....
You can use car as a bridal car in a wedding as long as its immediate family.
You can drive to and from club events, car shows and cruises etc.
And you car must be older then 30yrs old.
Its basically for people who have a classic car who doesnt use it as their daily driver.

Police dont tell you what you can or cant run.... the laws do... Police only enforce them.
And most cops are reasonable here and it depends totally on your attitude with them and what you were doing at the time.

As an example last month we had a car cruise with over 100cars. The cruise ended up at the "strand" (our local beach area) and it was to raise money for spinal awareness week. Police followed us but we werent under escort (no lights flashing). As we got closer to the strand as we were stopped at the traffic lights got out and ran up to me and told me to turn on my police lights and he would follow behind me to the car show!

I got him to put on my madmax jacket later and he got the other officer to take pics of him with the interceptor.
:D

Despite my car being somewhat illegal (siren and lights fitted, which normally remain covered up) they dont usually give me a 2nd glance.
We are 100% snafu....

Great story, nice to see they appreciate and know what the car is all about, and realise that there are others out there who also want to see it...

The rules for old car are differnt in each state in the U.S. most of the midwest states are more forgiving and have some nice options for registering a classic car. California has probly some of the most strict rules for older cars to be on the road.

Some states do get a bit picky, but mostly for Emissions equipment. A few states still have safety inspections. Here in Florida there is no vehicle inspection but occasionally the Highway Patrol or the S.O. will conduct random checkpoints for drunk drivers. They'll also check for valid licenses, proof of insurance, and basic vehicle equipment like head and tail lamps, brake lights, tag lights, operational windshield wipers, and horn. It's a pain in the ass if you're in a hurry but it does net a lot of under the influence drivers. I keep my lights and stuff in tip top condition as a hold-over from my street racing days. Why give them a reason over a 65cent light bulb.
