Only spotted this last night - The Toecutter Truck Smash

Post by Sucks_Nitro »

Was still-advancing through the Mad Max DVD last night to work out exactly where in the University of Melbourne's South Car Park the BOB Pursuit Special was parked (for your information there are nine mushroom shaped pillars in a row running from West to East and the BOB was parked between pillar six and seven from the Western-end of the South Car Park, between the second and third pillar from the Southern-end, with the car facing West) and spotted this during The Toecutter Head-on scene:

Image
Nothing out of the ordinary in this shot... perfectly normal Kenworth.

Image
What's that? It can't be!

Image
You'll notice there appears to be a sheet metal plate fitted to the front of the bull bar, painted to resemble the front of the truck (complete with four headlamps, nice red lines for the bull bar etc) which aims to protect the front of the cab during the collision.

Has anyone spotted this before or is it just common knowledge that I wasn't privvy too?

Amazing what you find on-screen after all these years!

It's listed at the flubs list on this site.
"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

Cool!

Thanks for pointing that out:

Now I think I've got one for Peter's website:

The Chevy gets wrecked on Ripley Road, Little River, about half way up, heading out of Lara on the way to Kirk Bridge Road, on the right hand side. During the chase, the Chevy and bikes are travelling from South to North on Ripley Road because you can see the You Yangs in the background of the shot. However, when the Chevy crashes it is travelling from North to South and ends up just past a dirt road and gate on the left hand side of the road. It appears that after the initial shots were filmed, travelling South to North, the stunt team set-up the crash to occur from the opposite direction, travelling North to South!

Got a question about the petrol stealing scene,

Clunk (Bertrand Cadart) leads the tanker and causes it to slow down

Diabando (Howard Eynon) throws the tubing

Mudguts (David Bracks) vaults onto the tanker

Johnny "The Boy" Boyle (Tim Burns) and Nic Gazzana (Starbuck) fill the plastic jerry can

Is this correct?

Is it just me or does it appear that in the third still shot the semi has a flat front tire?

Just wacthed the scene with the comantary and they said that the driver of the truck requested that so he didn't smash his truck, it was also stated that he was paid in beer for the use of his truck. What a great payment.

I watched this scene a houndred of times. Did you notice, that Toecutter's bike is not even a Kawasaki Z1000 here? To me the machine looks more like a two-cylinder. Maybe a old Norton Commando. In no way this bike is a Kawasaki Z 1000. The tank appears to be too small and why the hell the fairing is not even visible from the beginning on. The handlebar has a complete different form and Toecutter is a simple dummy. Easy noticeable at the end as the truck runs him over. Such little details are normal for such an old film but irritates me after each watshing.
I could probably make it on my own, but I like you kids.

Never heard a commentary. What's the cover look like on your Region 1 so I can score it?
